About Me

Living and working in South Asia, based in Kathmandu, Nepal but also often in India and Bangladesh for work. Exploring the region meanwhile...

ABOUT ME
Hum, all about me? Well, I'm 36y/o and Belgian, born under the sign of Gemini,. I think I'm quite easygoing but focused and organized... I used to do capoeira. I love playing games (in a good way), like werewolf, risk or Settlers of Catan. I enjoy discussions that aren't debates and exchanges that change my outlook on things.
I would rather be lucky than intelligent, but I also think some luck is hand made... Respect seems important, together with balance, and sharing...

We welcome people staying at our house and enjoying the facilities and provide some TLC for our cat...

For communication, it might be easier to either add me on Facebook (Bruno Deceukelier) or send me emails (brunodeceuk@gmail.com) rather than through CouchSurfing system.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Well, I think this system is as good as the people that compose it: sometimes great, sometimes minimalist, sometimes the best people I have ever met. I try not to disturb people. I am usually not too interested in doing the tourist stuff, cause honestly, after travelling a while, you have always seen older, newer, bigger, more modern, stranger... I`m not saying this to blow my own trumpet, on the contrary, I think I travel more now to get to know people and see their everyday life, not the "exceptional" buildings etc. Nah, the everyday barbecue or party or game of Risk will do me just fine thank ya...

Interests

So many, I like to try everything twice, but never seem to get perfect at anything. Just excel at being marvelously mediocre in most things, but that makes for good conversations, cause I always have things to learn... and questions to ask.
Love the full moon, philosophy, games, riddles, wondering when and where I took this picture, comparing languages, any sports I haven`t tried yet...

Music, Movies, and Books

3 books that came into my head just now: The parfum, Hitch hikers guide to the galaxy, secret history.
3 movies come to mind: Freddy Krueger is hilarious, Labyrint with David Bowie and Jennifer Connely, Thelma and Louise...
Music: hey guys, I`m a bit too eclectic: browse my iPod (faithful friend for traveling) and you`ll find Enigma next to Eric Clapton, K`s Choice above Kinderen voor Kinderen, Shania Twain below to Sandra Kim, The Cure after the Corrs... What can I say, I`m not a one type music person...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hum, proud I've put my foot on every continent but there is so much more left to discover. There are 193 countries recognized by the UN, and I have visited about 83 of those, while I am now 36... Doing the math, gotta keep moving...
Snoring between the seadogs in Antartica, watching post hurricane Ivan sunset in Jamaica, holding a baby humming bird in south Brasil, helping Jesus return to his family in Haiti, diving class in Great Barrier Reef in Australia, the Garden route in South Africa....

Teach, Learn, Share

• Games: Risk, Colonists of Catan, cards, werewolf, citadelle, a combo game of 30 seconds/taboo/trivial pursuit/Pictionary/ mime/scruples and whatever we can invent or combine – in little table next to sofas.
• Movies: ask us, about 2Terra of movies and series, and we even have a projector for huge crowds! Also good to copy for travelers with long lonely winter nights.
• Capoeira: Brazilian martial art/dance
• Volunteering: I work with orphans and vulnerable children, using artistic or creative arts as tools for counselling, so if you’re interested and there are some activities going on, you might be able to watch or take part.
