About Me

I'm a friendly Canadian who loves to learn...usually science and nerdy stuff, but also about other cultures and people. I love adventures, and so I also love hearing about them. I'm generally quite laid back, and I'm very used to living with others.

I was born in Canada, but I've lived for about 5 years in Vietnam (basically a childhood), and I love being in other countries.

I finished my bachelor's in Engineering Physics at UBC in Vancouver. I am starting my PhD in Physics in Madison, WI in the US this upcoming Fall.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am going on a backpacking adventure through Latin America (Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Costa Rica), and am looking for tips and friends. I also wouldn't mind sharing stories or learning Spanish!

Interests

Dancing to a good beat, reading, anything about Science, sitting and listening quietly, hiking, sailing, windsurfing. Travelling! Generally having a good time.

Music, Movies, and Books

My first book I really read was the Hobbit, and since then I've always loved Tolkien and anything related with Middle-Earth or the Lord of the Rings.

Big fan of Sci-fi, particularly: Ender's Game, 2001 Space Odyssey, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy etc. Highly recommend the work of Ted Chiang. He wrote the story that inspired the Arrival movie!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went to Iceland for a week with a plan to do the Laugevegur trek...alone. It was really exciting yet nerve-racking...until on the first day of the trek, I met with this group who were studying Sustainability and Tourism, and they whisked me along with them! It was an epic journey, me being like Bilbo Baggins, joining this group of companions who were everything: smart, funny, sociable. They made my time in Iceland a truly fantastic adventure.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach basic piano theory, mathematics, physics, and programming (C/C++, Java, Python, Matlab). I can have night-long debates of eco-friendly technological development.

I cook a mad breakfast omelette. And I enjoy making pancakes for guests.

I am semi-fluent in Vietnamese.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can play piano, and I'm learning guitar. I can share my book recommendations and stories. I am happy to help with any chores.
