About Me

ABOUT ME

Hi, we're Bryce and Sarah! After living and travelling through Australia and Europe during 2011 and 2012, we have finally settled down in Kingston, where we tied the knot this past June. We have been lucky enough to stay with people we met through CouchSurfing all over the world, and now that we're back in Canada we want to give back to the CS community by hosting.

PHILOSOPHY

My whole outlook on life can pretty much be summed up by a couple of quotes from John Hughes movies:

Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop to look around once in a while, you might miss it.
- Ferris Bueller's Day Off

You see us as you want to see us... In the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess, and a criminal.
- The Breakfast Club

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We discovered this amazing community just a couple of months before we left Canada in 2011, so we only had the opportunity to host once before departing for Australia. Now that we're home, we're eager to help travellers in any way we can.

We're pretty easygoing people, so depending on our schedules and your travel style we're happy to either give you free reign over the city or take you around and show you the sights.

Interests

I'm (trying to be) an avid cycler and Sarah loves to cook - I'm always on the lookout for a riding buddy and she's always ready to teach or learn a new recipe. We also enjoy introducing people to our favourite restaurants or pubs around town. We know what it's like to be a cost-conscious traveller, so we like to show surfers the best activities in the area that don't cost much (or any) money.

Music, Movies, and Books

Rob Fleming said in High Fidelity that "what really matters is what you like, not what you are like... books, records, films - these things matter." I have to agree with him on this one, since one of the best CS experiences of my life started when I saw that our host shared the same favourite movies as I did.

Movies: Braveheart, Gangs of New York, 28 Days Later, The Usual Suspects, 25th Hour, Pulp Fiction, Leon, Sunshine, The Prestige, Goodfellas, Ghostbusters, Moon, Gladiator, In Bruges, The Princess Bride, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Good Will Hunting, Casino, 25th Hour, Se7en.

Music: I listen to an eclectic mix of indie folk, electronica and psychedelic rock. I love getting music suggestions, but I can't promise that I'll get around to listening to them any time soon.

Books: The Stand, Game of Thrones, Watchmen, A Farewell to Arms, Y: The Last Man, The Count of Monte Cristo, The Great Gatsby, Tess of the D'Urbervilles, The BFG. When I'm travelling there's no better companion than a nice John Grisham or Michael Connelly thriller.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been able to hike through the Australian Outback, scuba dive in the Great Barrier Reef, bungee jump into a river in New Zealand on a freezing cold morning, and watch the sunrise over the most beautiful beach in the world.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to play guitar, Sarah can teach you how to cook delicious pizza completely from scratch. I am currently trying (unsuccessfully) to learn German, so I won't turn down a lesson, but what's most important to us is being able to share travel tips and stories.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Canada, Cuba, Denmark, France, Ireland, Italy, Monaco, New Zealand, Spain, United Kingdom, United States, Vatican City State
