Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Para mim, viajar vai além de conhecer lugares, mas é principalmente sobre conhecer culturas, pessoas, ideias e tradições. Eu morei na Europa por um ano e o couchsurfing me ajudou a aproveitar este tempo ao máximo. Não só me ajudou a viajar com o orçamento apertado de um universitário, mas foi muito mais que isso. Aprendi tanto sobre diferentes culturas e conheci tantas pessoas interessantes desta forma, o que nunca seria possível se estivesse ficado num quarto de hotel.

A maior parte da minha experiência com Couchsurfing não foi através do aplicativo, mas de um grupo de estudantes brasileiros na Europa. Durante o ano em que morei lá, cheguei a receber mais de 60 pessoas no meu pequeno quarto. E mesmo quando estas pessoas vinham do meu país, a troca cultural era incrível!

Traveling for me is not only about visiting places, but getting to know cultures, people, thoughts, ideas and traditions. I’ve lived in Europe for just one year and CS helped me make the most of it. At first, I expected couchsurfing to help me travel with my tiny student budget (and it did), but it became much more than that. I learned so much about cultures and got to know so many people that I'd never get in touch with if I just crashed in a hostel.

Most of my couchsurfing experience wasn't through this website. I hosted and was hosted by tens of brazillian students during my time in Europe, and even coming from the same country, the exchange of culture in these occasions was incredible!

Interests

Como músico e engenheiro, meus interesses são principalmente música e tecnologia, mas o que mais me fascina é a história por trás disso. Gosto de saber de onde as coisas vieram e qual o impacto delas no mundo ao redor.

Além disso, gosto muito de filmes, livros e fotografia. Tenho me aventurado no mundo analógico recentemente. Apesar de não ter tanto conhecimento sobre isso, adoraria conversar sobre e aprender o máximo possível (:

As a guitar player and engineer, my interests are mostly music and technology, but the part I like the most is the history behind them. I like to know where things come from and what was their impact in the world around them.

Apart from that, I really like movies, books and photography, even though I don't have nearly enough knowledge about this to talk for hours and hours. Though, if you're a talker and like to talk about this stuff, I'll hapilly listen to you and learn as much as I can (:

Music, Movies, and Books

Música: Eu ouço e toco muita música brasileira, desde bossa nova até coisas novas muito boas que têm aparecido nos últimos anos. A realidade é que, de Frank Sinatra a Arctic Monkeys, é difícil encontrar algo que eu objetivamente não goste. Sempre fico feliz em mostrar novas músicas para as pessoas, certamente tenho algo que você irá gostar (:

Filmes: Sou um grande fã de dramas psicológicos, como Clube da Luta ou Requiém Para um Sonho. O cinema nacional também é algo que me encanta, ficarei sempre feliz em assistir um. (E assistam Bacurau!)

Livros: Não ando lendo muito nos últimos tempos, mas os últimos que eu li foram 1984, Farenheit 451 e Admirável Mundo Novo

Music: I listen to (and play) a lot of brazillian stuff, from Bossa Nova to some new really good stuff that's going on there. From Fran Sinatra to Arctic Monkeys, is hard to find something I dislike. Some of my favourite muscians/bands are Eric Clapton, Amy Whinehouse, Creedence, Jethro Tull, Public Service Broadcasting, Queen, Stevie Ray, The Who, Tom Jobim (and a looooot more!)

Movies: I'm a big fan of psycologial thrillers, like Fight Club or Requiem for a Dream

Books: I don't really read that much, but the last two books I read were 1984, Farenheit 451 and Brave new World.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Fui ao festival do solstício de verão no Stonehenge, com algumas caronas no processo. Ver o sol subindo alinhado com as pedras foi uma experiência indescritível. Depois disso, passei mais dois dias acordado viajando para encontrar minha melhor amiga que não via há quase um ano. Foi provavelmente a semana mais intensa e gratificante da minha vida.

I went to the summer solstice festival in Stonehenge, with a bit of hitchhiking on the way. Seeing the sun going up aligned to the stones was breathtaking! After that, I still spent a couple of days awake traveling to see my best friend I haven't seen for almost an year. It was probably the most intense week of my life.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Se tiver algum violão por perto, posso sempre animar o ambiente e mostrar músicas novas.

If there's a guitar around (I can't always bring my own, unfortunately), I can share my music and a bit of my country's culture. I also usually have some brazillian candy with me to share with my hosts.
