About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To make the little things in life count.
ABOUT ME
Eternally curious student of life and people! After hitting a rather rough patch in my life, I took a n extended sabbatical from Med school to gather my strength, try to focus on my singing, travel and work. I am finally back on track to becoming an MD, but my experience with depression has been very humbling and has taught me so much about myself. Working in the trauma unit has also hammered home how important it is to enjoy life to it's fullest, take care of your loved ones and appreciate what you've got. The human mind has always fascinated me and I have had the privilege of meeting many interesting people, not least while traveling.
Prefer the outdoors to the indoors and find peace in nature. Classical singing is my passion and my main pastime at this time in life. I love going to the concerthall and the Opera, like to paint and really appreciate good conversations and genuine people. Guess you could say I have the mind of a scientist and the heart of an artist. :P Used to volunteer work a lot as a fitness instructor, at a very popular non-profit gym chain, but currently focusing more on yoga (though I wouldn't call myself anything but a novice). And while I may be slightly fed up with doing exams, I'll never tire of learning new things! I've learned to embrace both my strenghts and my weaknesses, and feel so grateful for my life. Despite it's flaws, the world is an amazing place, and there are many amazing people in it.
PHILOSOPHY
It's not all about the adrenaline rush - life is in the details! It's about stopping every once in a while and really enjoying the little things in life, as well as taking the time to appreciate the people close to you. Oh, and ice cream, don't forget about ice cream!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
First came in touch with CS back in 2008, when my current flatmate got involved. A few years later I signed up and started hosting, and eventually also surfing. Have mainly hosted and surfed together with my brother and fellow CS member, Patrik. Used to be a more active host, but then life happened, I suppose. I've been on here for quite some time, after all. But if you need a bed and appreciate philosophical conversations you are more than welcome to give me a shout! :) Occasionally attended the CS-meets in Gothenburg, but not any more. Like to try to couchsurf while traveling, it it fits, as meeting locals always adds to the cultural experience.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Have only met great people hosting and great people surfing. Respect is key!
Interests
Passionate about improving my classical singing, as well as my language skills. Love being outdoors, hiking, painting, holding my gym classes,( just being physically active beats sitting still any day of the week ), art, photography, music, traveling (well, duh), learning new things! I am constantly curious, making me a bit of an "omnivor", if you will. Have always hated making lists like these though...
- arts
- singing
- photography
- dancing
- coffee
- traveling
- painting
- music
- outdoor activities
- hiking
- skydiving
- languages
- science
Music, Movies, and Books
Yes, yes and yes - I like all of the above. Always curious about new music, trying to find the soundtrack of my life I guess. There is a musical piece for every occasion. Grew up with classical music and love it but have a very ecclectic taste, almost anything goes, and I use music from variety of genres for my gym classes. Though I have to admit I'm a bit out of touch with contemporary music. Sometimes there is no nerve, no nothing, it just plain bores me. Maybe I'm getting old... (perish the thought!). Even though I read a lot less these days than I used to, there is nothing to beat the experience of losing oneself in a really good book! Always watching new films, and TV-series, from almost all categories. Though there are still a lot of movies on my "must see"-list...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
When I did my rotation on the Orthopedic ER/A&E as a student, I met a woman who was a surivor of Auschwitz. The conversation I had with her while waiting for her X-ray results moved me profoundly. I have never been able to remember her name, but her face and her story are branded in my memory for ever! The strenght and endurance of the human spirit never cease to amaze me. Some people just humble you.
On a completely different note, I totally challenged myself when I went skydiving in NZ - absolutely amazing experience!
Teach, Learn, Share
I am always open to learning from others and I like to think I reciprocate as best I can. Once again, the things you take with you from a meeting are not alway the most obvious, or the things you might have expected.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Good conversations, travel inspiration, food, maybe a tune or two... :)
