Über mich

CURRENT MISSION

I'm on a tough biking trip from Seattle, WA to Santa Cruz, CA. The plan is to camp along the way but will sleep under a roof if I can (especially if it rains heavilly)

ABOUT ME

Who I am changes from time to time. I feel I would be doing an injustice to the reader and myself if I were to put anything too substantive here. Some things that remain constant though: Philosopher, Athlete, Friend.

PHILOSOPHY

Again tough to summarize. In general I like to say critical thinking in every sphere of life is the ticket. Lately I've been saying that learning to be comfortable with contradiction, living within paradoxes not in the middle but in a seriously contemplative manner help from losing control of one's desires or settling on a particular belief/mantra. Mobility and elusiveness are first rate values in my book; as soon as I see a belief take a strong hold of someone I loose interest. We all must live with beliefs, but being critical of beliefs seems to be mine.

Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Just getting started, but I could use a couch or roof for my Pacific Coast Bike Adventure.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had friends sleep on my couch at my hometown in Menlo Park and Santa Cruz many times. All friends were welcome after a long night or an extended stay that happened to be passing by. My circle of friends pretty much could count on one another to put each other up when in town - we keep it tight.

Interessen

Philosophy, Playing Sports (in order - Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, Frisbee & Disc Golf, MMA/Ju Jitsu, Ping Pong, Billiards) and watching them, bicycling, good microbrews, good video games, skateboarding down hills, writing (eventually).

Musik, Filme und Bücher

I will listen to, read, and watch all genres but get pretty critical of them once I get into the movie/director/band/song/book/author. I mostly read philosophy though, its the only subject that really can enrich my life and thoughts and feed my mind sufficiently. The same criteria goes for all movies, music, books - I want something that I will continue to ponder and create problems and paradoxes that force me to activate my critical capabilities, furthering my strength of resolve and direction.
I love reading epic comic books as well like those of Alan Moore and Frank Miller. I really like Akira Kurosawa movies and some anime (pretty much just Cowboy Bebop).
I've recently been listening to a lot of bluegrass, jazz and blues (though I'm not knowledgeable of any them or musically talented myself). Classic Rock like Pink Floyd and Final Fantasy music by Nobuo Uematsu are always staples though.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

Been to Europe on a school trip in high school (Florence, Venice, Rome, Paris, Nice, Cannes, London) with a chaperon full of stories and knowledge.

Lehren, lernen, teilen

I'd love to share my knowledge of the history of philosophy and I am totally willing to help people out with projects to acquire new skills. My favorite kind of labor is manual labor - working with my hands and lifting large objects (kind of the opposite of philosophizing huh?)
