About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I don’t think that the word “mission” fits here, but I hope that people become a little bit more free one day

ABOUT ME

Hey! I'm Sophie from Austria :) I'm a kind, spontaneous and humorous person who loves to reflect on social phenomenons, society and myself. I'm a quite critical person :) At the moment I am doing an Erasmus-Internship in Dublin . I am working with people who were homeless.
I love cooking and trying out different meals and funny combinations of incredients (sometimes it doesn't work very well :D). I have an aweful lot of interests such as music, drawing, art in generell I suppose, altering clothes, sports, philosophy (Foucault, Butler, etc.) and more job related topics like addiction, devience and crime, mindfullness - god, I can talk about anything I think :D I find people fascinating in general.
I think if a asked some friends of mine to describe me they would probably say that I'm a very honest, funny, critical, individual and loveable person.

PHILOSOPHY

It's pretty hard to answer that question, because I don't have "this one philosophy" which I can use in all different parts of my life ;)
But I try to give an example ... I strongly believe that the structure of our society which is based on formal and informal norms is highly dependent on human interaction. I believe that everything starts with communication of individuals, because while talking to each other they share and observe their reality and more or less "coordinate" them. This all happens unconciously - of course you somehow "know" that you don't have to answer the phone by saying "no" instead of "hello" or similar. This would be against the social rules and you won't be understood or even punished with social exclusion.
But I see, this all would lead too far :D So I'm pretty sure we could talk about this if you wanted to.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I share a flat with three friends and two of them have already made lots of couchsurfing experiences and also invited several couchsurfers. I liked it very much and it was great fun. I invited couchsurfers myself as well.

What I really appreciate though is meeting new people via couchsurfing for a cup of tea or coffee and I made good experiences so far with that. I also surfed while doing a hitching trip through Ireland which was amazing.

Interests

My interests ... hm, I already wrote some in my personal description. Before I started working with former homeless people in Dublin, I spent lots of time at University, which I always liked. And I like sports too, for example jogging or dancing, because it helps me to relax. Sometimes that's necessary when I have lots of things to do. :) A big part of my life are my friends.
I like cooking and drawing, making music and solve problems. I love working with people.

Music, Movies, and Books

Meat Market: Female Flesh under Capitalism (Laurie Penny)
Surveiller et punir (Michel Foucault)
Gender Trouble (Judith Butler)
Harry Potter :D (yes, I'm also a huge fantasy fan)

I really love: Lord of the Rings, Spider Man, Inglourious Bastards, Matrix, Sons of Norway, Tomboy, The Big Lebowski, Tyrannosaur - a love story ... and plenty more.

Music: a lot. I love electronical music to dance to but liquid jazz to come down, critical and non-mainstream rap to push myself into a rebellious mood, trash music to have a good time - but it really depends :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Once my dad cooked his very delicious creamy lentil soup. I took one bowl and wanted to go back to the table, but suddenly the bowl slided out of my hands and fell down to the earth. Now everybody would guess that the soup spilt everywhere on the ground, but no - not my special, legendary bowl of supernatural lentil soup. As the bowl touched the ground it kept standing uprightly and for a very short moment I thought I was safed and nothing happed and I could eat my soup.
But then the soup decided to shoot up like an arrow - not one, not two but two and a half meters high in the air to decorate the ceiling.

This was pretty awesome. My dad laughed his ass off.

Teach, Learn, Share

wow, this is an interesting field actually - I guess you could learn and practice German if you want to :D We could try to make music together (I'm a bit shy concerning this but hey, I could try) or if you want to know things about dieting (of course never forgetting the critical view) or doing sports: I'm well informed. ;)
