About Me

Hey it's Berkay from Turkey! I am currently a student in Rome, Italy, and I am studying a course called Global Governance, which is a course about global issues like climate change, international affairs, politics etc. Last semester (in Autumn 2019) I went to the University of Sheffield in the UK as a part of Erasmus exchange programme. I will be graduating this summer, and hopefully have a job that I can really make an impact.

About my background, I spent my childhood in Turkey, moving from one city to another, because I have a single mom and it was not always easy to settle somewhere. I have a brother that also lives in Turkey.

Personally, I am a movie lover, a decent book reader, and an amateur footballer. I would love to travel around the world, but had the opportunity to visit only Europe so far.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have always imagined such a platform where people host each other to share experiences, to help each other, and to meet strangers. However, I just learned that there exists such a platform! This is something I will do when I have my own house as well, but for now, I am hoping to be the guest.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love everything from Lady Gaga to Tchaikovsky for music, but if I have to choose a single song, I would say Edith Piaf's Milord.

Movies are difficult to choose because I watched over 800 movies (all recorded in iMDB) and I forget most of them. Recently, I would say my favorites are Hayao Miyazaki animes, such as Spirited Away or Howl's Moving Castle.

I love to read history, and I love to learn about history. Therefore, I will go with Chronicle of a Death Foretold, because it has a unique story covered with the magical reality of Latin America.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One amazing thing I did was to succeed in going to university abroad. It may not be that amazing but it is the first time someone from my family went outside the country, and I managed to do it by my academic success. Now, I have seen a few countries of the world, and I cannot stop but thinking of visiting more. Hopefully, one day I will be able to let my family have the same experience as well.

Teach, Learn, Share

To be honest, without any reason, this website is Russian right now, and I tried to change it from settings but it does not change. Therefore, I do not have the slightest idea what is the title of this box. The translator failed here...

What I Can Share with Hosts

I believe all people have their own unique experiences in the World, does not matter what kind of a life they had, and I also had my own experiences. I lived in three countries (so far), living alone since the age of 13, studying an amazing course about how to make an impact in the world, and I have friends from all around the world who share their own experiences with me. There is a lot to talk!
