ABOUT ME

Among my passions is sailing. I love all types of sailing from Optimists and Lasers to 70ft yatchs on offshore racing. Santa Cruz has been a great place to grow up with regards to sailing as there is a very wide variety of conditions from flat to over 40kt along with many friendly sailors.

I have turned my hobby of jumping off rocks and climbing trees into a sport, and a small career with parkour.
Since I was little I always was hopping fences, through the years I found a friend Dustin Sharp who helped me get my coaching license and turn it into a career of teaching others, particularly interesting is a senior class I teach to facilitate self help and good balance in later years.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My family has hosted quite a few travelers, mostly through workaway and WOOF programs, and I've met so many interesting people through these that it sparked my interest in traveling.

In particular I'm eager to perfect my bread making skills and I hope to see many new techniques and skills.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite books certainly evolve very quickly.
Fiction wise I can't seem to forget Asimov's Foundation series. It has had such a profound effect on my views of the world.

"Surely You're Joking Mr.Feynman" was ridiculously entertaining, and really humanized some of my top role models to an achievable level.

HPMOR is an all time favorite, if you've read that I'm sure we'll have plenty in common.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It was a dark and stormy night. Except it wasn't dark or night, just stormy. I had decided to take a laser out. Lasers aren't known as the most sturdy of boats, but their hull design being flat bottomed and about 4m in length is similar to that of a surfboard, which makes them extraordinarily fun in waves, but a little capsize prone. It was consistently 20kts on the bay, gusting to 30kt, and I am having the time of my life hanging off the back of the boat and cruising down waves. However on one such wave I got hit with a particularly large puff of wind and I capsize, which no big deal as I can just right the boat and keep going. However the issue was that the boat didn't capsize, but the mast fell down. This presented several issues, as I now had no sail, and instead of going the speed of the waves I was now being washed up and down. So I did what any good sailor would do, I grabbed the mangled aluminum cylinder that was my mast and got paddling, for 2 hours.
That said, it was some of the most exhilarating sailing I have ever done.
Do I now check the interior of my mast for oxidation? Yes.
Do I now carry a radio? Yes

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a certified parkour coach and teach classes in my hometown, I'd be very happy to show you some basic moves, and if you're interested I've taught a few people how to do a backflip!

I have also been working on my baking skills, making pizza and bread at home I have been working on my sourdough with a starter I brought all the way from Austria. I really want to learn how to make better and different breads. Looking to both teach and learn.

I really like figuring out puzzling things, be that a designed contraption or a broken machine.

I'd also be happy to help with any and all maths!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'd be happy to buy some groceries and cook a great meal, teach some parkour, or just have a conversation about maths, music, or the heat death of the universe.
