About Me
CURRENT MISSION
I'm currently settled on Crete, recharging my batteries and considering my options... Passersby welcome.
ABOUT ME
I divide my time between Paris and a small town on the southwest coast of the Greek island of Crete. I work for UNESCO in Paris and for the Greek government ministries turning bureaucratic lies in various European languages into equally mendacious English. It's not a very lucrative profession, but job satisfaction (I enjoy the translation process itself most of all) and flexibility (I work on short-term contracts) are much more important to me than material gain. When I'm not working, I am what I do: supporting the New York Yankees, keeping the French wine industry solvent, and trying to reconcile the Greek and Turkish sectors of Cyprus by persuading the feuding parties that their real common enemy is Paraguay.
PHILOSOPHY
"If you see your neighbour carrying something, help him with his load / And don't go mistaking paradise for that home across the road"
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm just back into the CS experiment after participating in it 5 years ago during a journey around the US... I'm going to be going back to the home country in May, and travelling a bit in Ireland and the UK before that. As per the last time, I shall be dependent upon the kindness of strangers like Blanche Dubois before me. When I return to Crete, my home will be open so that I can reciprocate some of the hospitality that I have been the beneficiary of.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE The hosts whom I stayed with in America in 2011 were to a person fascinating and enjoyable company. Those who were kind enough to give me a review appear to have felt the same way about me :-) Human beings are so much more interesting than antiseptic chain motels!
