One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Presentation on high ranking Lama Zava Damdin (Great Mongolian Buddhist master) who achieved eternity through Buddhism Preface. The monk was talking to me about the peerless example of Lama Zava. After talking with my friend, I continued to be curious about Lama Zava and his ideas. As he say in Lama Zava's books are very rare and they are only available in Tibet. I hope that some of the charismatic force of Zava's character may be glimpsed in the following description of his life and ideas. I am certain the present work is far from perfect, but at least in the eyes of students, I hope it's interesting. Introduction Buddhist Master Lama Zava Damdin (Lovsandayan 1885-1937) In 1885, Zava Damdin was born in Dund-Gobi province, Delgertsogt. He was one of the many great scholars of Mongolia and often wrote compositions in the Tibetan language. He was a student in the West Religious School (Datsan of Gungaachoylin) of Urga. He studied Buddhist philosophy to perfection. Through this serious study, he gained profound knowledge. As a teenage, he received the degree of Doctor of Buddhist philosophy.
He wrote several Commentaries on philosophy and Ancient Buddhist history. He performed great deeds for all people and his religion until Spring of 1937, when he died in Urga. He took his duties seriously and therefore influenced Buddhism with his purity, respect for Buddhism and honesty. He arranged many kinds of sutras for all ages and developed his character and rules for Buddhism. He composed many Buddhist sutras and corrected other sutras. By doing that, he became famous and has earned and largely retained a good reputation in Buddhism. In that time, many high–ranking monks were including extra doctrines in Buddhism so that the General Commentary on the Doctrine of Sutras was losing its meanings. He understood that the original text of the Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path of Enlightenment (Tibet: Lam-rim Chen-mo)was kept by monks in Lhasa, Tibet. The Great Tibetan Buddhist Master checked that original text to correct the sutras. His corrected the sutras were absolutely his truth. He had a genius for a full range of talents. As for Tibet, the Buddhist masters admired his ability and they named him Zava. Zava means foundation of everything and it has a deep meaning. The Dalai Lama’s tutor, Tijan Rinpoche, was educating a Mongolian monk at a Buddhist university in Switzerland for quite a while. The monk got much better than the other monks and his genius was sensed by them. He was an outstanding man.
The Dalai Lama’s tutor understood this and he called his two shamans who protectors of secret relics, astrologers and analysts. They were all Buddhist masters. They found the monk to be Zava Lama. Near the lake in Switzerland, they recited sutras about absolute truth. Immediately after, Tibetan scripts appeared on the Lake that pointed to Mongolia and the monk's hometown. Finally, the name Lama Lovsandarjai appeared on the lake. Of course, he actually was Zava Lama’s reincarnation. His current incarnation lives in Dund–gobi province, Delger Datsan. He has been studying the sutras there. Buddhist monks have been exploring his doctrines of philosophy and many volumes of miscellaneous sutras. His doctrine is adhered to in many monasteries. He was the most important and original thinker in Buddhist history. He will never be forgotten. This story is only one example, there are many other stories about Mongolian Buddhist Masters.
