One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A few years ago, a couple friends and I set out to hike the John Muir Trail, a backpacking trail that winds 220 miles through the Sierra-Nevadas from Yosemite to Mount Whitney. We ended the journey at the summit of Mount Whitney. At fourteen and a half thousand feet above sea, it's the highest place in the lower 48 states. And, from the top, you can see EVERYTHING. Our view stretched for miles upon miles in every direction - across the jagged, glaciated peaks of the southern Sierras, over to distant alpine lakes, and steeply down thousands of feet to the barren deserts of Nevada. It was an unreal end to an awesome journey, and the moment we finally got there, tried to catch our breath in the thin air, and began soaking in the view was a moment I can't forget.
