About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To see the best there is to see, experience the best there is to experience in the wild land that is the USA.

ABOUT ME

I am a 24 year old Australian surfer/musician/law student/climate change action advocate who is spending the next 7 months traveling around the USA as part of a University exchange semester at Penn State University.

I live my life by the mantra "smile at the world and the world will smile back". I love meeting new people, saying yes, and having new experiences.

PHILOSOPHY

Get the most out of every day. Smile at life and it will smile back. Good things come to those who do good deeds. Everything happens for a reason.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have been having people stay on my couches in Sydney and Canberra for the last 10 years...I unfortunately only just heard about couchsurfer.com so it has not been though this site. But i love having new and interesting people come and stay with me.

Just two weeks ago I had an american girl I had only just met come and stay with me in Sydney. I took her bush walking, took her to a dinner party with some of my closest friends and introduced her to my family.

I am now in LA and staying on a couch at her boyfriend's house. It just goes to show that if you give a little, you get a little.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Since I arrived in the US I have been staying on friend's couches and floors. It has been such an amazing experience. I really hate having to be a tourist and couch surfing has been the perfect way to meet other cool people and really get to know a place.

At the place i'm currently staying at i've cooked a huge hot Australian breakfast three times and bought two cases of beer. I've also bought toilet paper and have done the dishes a number of times.

I figure i'd be spending a heap of cash on hostels and hotels anyway so i might as well help out and show my gratitude and it makes life so much easier for your host if you help out. And I really enjoy doing those types of things.

Interests

I am extremely passionate about climate change, the challenge to our work it poses, and the opportunities it presents. I am also interested the environment and figuring out ways to give its preservation economic value.

To keep fit I love to play football (soccer), touch footy and go running. If there's a beach near by I also love bodyboarding and and bodysurfing. I grew up near the beach in Sydney so it is in my blood. But i don't like swimming in chlorinated pools. Something about swimming in chemicals doesn't get me going.

I am also passionate about theatre. I'm interested in all types and am especially enthusiastic about opera, musical theatre and really great modern drama.

I'm also a music enthusiast who plays bass in a band in Canberra. We're called the Trivs. You can check us out on myspace. It's pretty indi-pop-rock. Kind of a blend of the strokes, bloc party, the cribs and the wombats.

I also love the outdoors and going on hikes, camping or adventuring.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I in Vietnam I had the privilege of visiting to Sapa, an ethnic tribal area in the mountains of north-western Vietnam. The people there still live very traditional lives with traditional clothing, indigenous languages and subsistence farming. To get around the area you need to hike with a guide. We spent three days hiking around the mountains and staying at homestays. A truly incredible experience.

I also went on a 7 day surfing boat trip in the Mentawai Islands, just off Sumatra, Indonesia. We not only got to catch some amazing waves, but we also got to explore some of the islands, discovering thick jungles, beautiful waterfalls, and eating delicious mud crab.

Teach, Learn, Share

I just recently finished a course in Lessac voice training. Arthur Lessac is seen by many theatre practitioners to have been the most influential voice teacher in modern theatre. Although I'm no certified Lessac teacher, I can give people a few tips on how to use their voice in a way that increases resonance, prevents tension, and allows you to speak with confidence and clarity.
