About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I love to meet interesting people and get to know new places (especially in an affordable & authentic way). I would like very much to help interesting people get to know more about the great place where I live-also in an affordable way!

ABOUT ME

Wow--too hard to pinpoint it all! If you're interested in possibly staying in the Charleston, South Carolina area with me, then contact me and ask all kinds of questions--I absolutely will ask questions of you!
The basics: I am a single, professional guy who "works to live" rather than "lives to work". I am fortunate to have a great job teaching high school & college students--a job with a lot of freedom to enjoy the many scheduled breaks--I take advantage of them all by traveling a good bit and spending a lot of time outside, especially since the weather here at our beaches is great & the mountains are just a short drive away. I like to host friends at my place for get-togethers, meals, playing cards and the like, so I am looking at Couch Surfing as an extension to what I already am doing. I will be selective about who stays in my home, but anybody hoping to do so will be rewarded because he or she will get the true "local perspective" on all the good stuff happening here in the Charleston area! I am very easy to get along with, and I like almost everybody.

PHILOSOPHY

Gosh, this is way too deep to get fully into here, but I will try to give a brief synopsis.
I believe everyday of life is a gift and there are no guarantees that tomorrow will come at all, let alone that it will be filled with as many opportunities as the present day--so, Carpe Diem!
I am a committed Christian, and I believe that all people are inherently valuable because they are created in the image of God. All are worthy of respect and deserve to be treated with dignity even if they are making choices and living lives that I do not agree with. I believe that God puts all kinds of people in our lives to teach us things, to stretch us, and to help us to grow.
Personally, I do my very best to live an upstanding and moral life according to the Judeo-Christian ethic, and most people who know me would describe me as a "good man" because I do not struggle with and I have been spared from many of the difficult issues and circumstances that may haunt others. I am by no means perfect, just self aware. I believe in social justice, just like Jesus did, and I help financially support several causes that seek to serve the poor and/or oppressed, although politically I tend to lean toward the conservative side.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

multiple hosting experiences and 3 surfing experiences...hopefully more of each in the future!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

In the recent past I have hosted (for 11 months each) three high school foreign exchange students, so I am accustomed to having other cultures share my living space!Since I joined CS I have hosted a dozen or more times and my guests have been cool and interesting to talk with.My first three surfs were great, this is the best way to connect to locals, so hopefully many more in the future--both hosting & surfing!

Interests

Anything outside. On a regular basis I run, bike, swim in a pool & at the beach, play indoor & beach volleyball, racquetball, hike, paddle by kayak, lift weights, host friends in my home, go out with friends, watch movies, I am usually up for almost anything.
