About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To focus on reading research papers instead of wandering off on street art quests in Berlin.

ABOUT ME

Reformed backpacker, currently trying his best to be serious and study so I can get a good job...
....so that I can earn a little cash, quit, and go backpacking again!!! OK, maybe not. I'm a former tennis player, former genetics, asthma, and cancer researcher, who's now decided Brains are interesting, and am studying and living in Berlin. I love street art, travel, punk music, sport, and a bunch of other stuff (I'm not big on hating). I also love CouchSurfing and had the most amazing time hosting and travelling with it, and am looking forward to having a place where I can host again.

PHILOSOPHY

When I'm 80 will I look back and say "I wish I'd gone to bed earlier that night".

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have been both a couch surfer and a couch provider. I love everything about the couch surfing ethos and have encouraged tonnes of my friends to join up.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have honestly never had a bad couchsurfing experience (knock on wood). I have experienced Holi with about 20 other people staying in a small living room in Rajastan, stayed on Malibu beach, and slept on the welcome mat to the Zimbabwean embassy after being locked out of my couch in Rome. The material, size and smell of the couch may change but unsurprisingly the type of person who is willing to let a stranger have access to their piece of the world is always very cool.

Interests

I am pretty active and love any manner of sport, both competitive and non competitive, however I am also a bit of a muso and a film buff. I love a laugh, and if a beer accompanies that then all the better. And of course I love travel, and meeting people from various background.

  • wine
  • beer
  • drinking
  • traveling
  • socializing
  • camping
  • surfing
  • sports
  • tennis
  • science
  • beaches

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: PUNK!!!!! but also alternative and indie stuff. Hell I like reggae, ska, rap, metal, funk, electro or anything so long as it's had a bit of thought put into it....but my heart belongs to punk.
Movies: Same deal. I love originality, but I will tolerate formulaic crap if it makes me laugh.
Books: Massive, fan of sci fi comedy, but unfortunately my broken new years resolution for the last 10 years has been to read more. But 2012 is looking good I swear.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Camping overnight in Dry Tortugas at the end of the Florida Keys. It was just my friend and I and an older couple drinking wine under the clearest starry night I've ever seen on our own deserted island.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you ever do a road trip around the US, make sure you stop by Utah. I had this same bit of advice and I almost ignored it, but I ended up going and it was the highlight of my trip. The national parks in this state are like being on another planet.
