Overview
About Me
I'm a mother and an artist, with three grown children and one fabulous grandson. I moved to Portland from midcoast Maine six years ago when my two youngest children were entering middle and high school to give them the opportunities for cultural competence and exposure to the arts otherwise unavailable in our small town. It was the best decision of my life; my middle child is currently finishing his sophomore year of college studying Arabic and international peace studies, heading to Cairo for the summer on his third independent trip to the Middle East, and my youngest has passionately pursued his music career and will be studying at Massachussets College of Art & Design in the Fall. My eldest, mother to my grandson, wraps up her medical training next year. I've focused on volunteer work within our refugee & immigrant community in Portland . On my horizon, art & more art; blacksmithing, sculpture, painting.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love people, and am naturally curious about everyone I meet. I grew up on a back to the land farm where the philosophy of solidarity and caring for our brothers and sisters across the world was embedded deeply. I've always had an open door to friends and strangers alike, so couch surfing fits my philosophy well. Perhaps especially in these times, it feeds my soul and faith in humanity to welcome new people, ideas, cultures, philosophies into my life; no matter what the scenario I always learn and grow from interactions with people and see the great gift in expanding my world through relationships.
