Overview
About Me
I've had the pleasure of spending the past 2 years travelling around Australia and south east asia. Now, I'm travelling across the United S tates on a 2 month road trip with a friend.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
In my travels, I met several people who've used and recommended couch surfing. I like learning about the places I travel to and who lives there. In this respect, there is no replacement for spending time with a local, whether it is to be immersed in a foreign culture or simply to find the best dives in town. I enjoy meeting similarly minded individuals who have a care for the communities they visit.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music:
Lately I've been into, I guess you could call it, Retro Pop. Basically popular music performed with a retro feel. Maybe it's a phase. I like Post Modern Jukebox.
In general, I can listen to classic rock for days, and I like getting into the more folksy blues and rock roots music. I love old school Jazz-- no weather channel music. I'm a big Dave Brubeck fan. Play Davis, Coletrane, Adderly, Getz.... Heck, you can even go off onto a bossa nova spree and I'll be right there with you. I played sax for many years, and fiddle around with the piano when I get a chance. Classical music is also fine, it just needs to be listened to live (or with a good sound system).
Books:
I love Science Fiction. I have my own philosophy on what makes good science fiction: You change a few variables, throw in a "what if this were possible," and you extrapolate how it would effect a group. The more evidence based your "what if" the more opportunity for extrapolation. I like well thought out "what ifs" so I can play along at home.
Movies:
I think I'm more into long form television these days. I recently watched HBO's rendition of West World and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm not ashamed to say that I also enjoy a block buster from time to time.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've stood inside a linear accelerator.
Recently biked the Tour de Coffee Culture in Christchurch!
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm a collector. I like collecting experiences. I've got a lot of random knowledge built up in my head over the past 29 years, and I am happy to share.
I suppose it's worth mentioning that I used to be a tutor (I've tutored secondary school maths and university physics). If you or your kids need any tips, I'd be willing to offer help from time to time.
I absolutely love learning. I'm a little stubborn on the environment, politics, and education, so those could be iffy topics. I'm not out to find arguments or get into debates. I really like learning new skills and methods. Someday I'd like to get a PPL. If you know anything about bronze working, please teach me (I love sculpturing)! If you are involved in any sort of art/craft and like teaching, please teach me.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Okay, time for the good stuff!
I'm definitely willing to cook. I'm by no means a chef, but I enjoy making simple things, like sauted spinach with fresh (important) EVOO and sea salt, baked cauliflower with garlic and lemon (or tahini sauce if you have a blender and the store sells tahini paste), muffins from scratch, arancini di riso, and more. I'm neither vegan nor vegetarian, but I wouldn't mind cutting back on meat and dairy. I'm trying to get more into lentils, beans, and quinoa. I think Keto is fascinating, but I'm personally not afraid of carbs. I'm willing to learn recipes as well!
I like to tinker. I've done my own car audio system, rebuilt my phone, and replaced caps on a flat screen TV (all successfully). I enjoy the independence of doing my own mechanical work on automobiles. I can do some carpentry and know how to use tools. I grew up in a home that was wood stove heated, so I can split and cart wood.
