Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

travel the world, one spoonful at a time.

ABOUT ME

I enjoy being around people, sharing stories, ideas, information and experiences. Sharing food is always good too!
As my sister would describe us, I'm a 'Caucasian cocktail': part Belgian, part American, I was born in the Netherlands, grew up in Scotland, also lived in the US and in Germany. I love the opportunities this background has given me to learn about life and culture from varying perspectives.
I am a graduate of the St Andrews University in Scotland, having studied International Relations and German for four years, including one year at Uni Bonn in Germany.

I take every opportunity I can to travel, depending on time and finances, and I've been badly bitten by the travel bug, and can't easily stay in one place for a prolonged period of time.

PHILOSOPHY

"I do not care what car you drive. Where you live. If you know someone who knows someone who knows someone. If your clothes are this years cutting edge. If your trust fund is unlimited. If you are A-list B-list or never heard of you list. I only care about the words that flutter from your mind. They are the only thing you truly own. The only thing I will remember you by. I will not fall in love with your bones and skin. I will not fall in love with the places you have been. I will not fall in love with anything but the words that flutter from your extraordinary mind."

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm happy to host people moving through wherever I may be at the time, or if i don't have space, even just to show people around and give advice on places to go and things to do.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have hosted quite a lot of people here in Glasgow and I surfed in the States.
I also grew up in a house with lots of people moving through all the time, so I guess that's where I got this from!

Intereses

Music of almost any kind, played loudly and live when I can afford it.
Dancing in my bedroom, in a club, on the street, in the rain, anywhere at all!
Singing (much to the dismay of my friends)
Travelling, of course...
Conversation of all kinds, be it silly, serious, intellectually challenging, controversial (especially then...), or just a bit of gossip.
Art (Looking at/hearing, not making. I can't even draw a stick man.)
I love to cook, and am happy in the kitchen with my vegetables and spices and fresh herbs!
I love hiking, although don't have the opportunity nearly as much as I'd like.
Generally being sociable!

Música, películas y libros

Movies: anything!!! i love movies that make you think, but i also love action movies, foreign films, and my guilty pleasure... musicals!
Music: anything!!! very eclectic, from opera, classical, hip-hop, pop, rock, ska, folk, salsa... etc etc....
Books: Hard one as well, I tend to devour books. Some of my favourites are Oscar Wilde, Picture of Dorian Grey; Rudyard Kipling, Kim and The Jungle Books; Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird; Aldous Huxley, Brave New World; Greg Mortensen and David Relin, Three Cups of Tea

Algo increíble que he hecho

Reaching the top of the mountain, after 9 hours of trekking uphill in scorching heat, collapsing with exhaustion on arrival, just to sit up, look around me, take everything in, and get right back up to hike 5 more miles there and back to a temple, just for the experience, and not even considering staying at camp.
I have to say, that being in Berlin is always an amazing experience for me. The things and people you see and meet are incredible, and I totally relish the open atmosphere where people are people, and the completely multicultural and diverse nature of this wonderful city.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

Mango salsa:
2 ripe avacados: best way to cut is to cut right down the middle til you hit the pit, tilt the knife straight forward, and cut around in a straight line. twist horizontally along the line, so the two halves come apart. if it's very ripe and squishy, just scoop out with a spoon. if not, slice in the skin in a grid-pattern, then scoop out with a spoon. mush up with a fork.
1 large ripe mango: best way to cut is vertical, as close to the seed as possible. chop up small.
a few tomatoes: chop small
heaps of fresh coriander: chopped
chilli: amount depends on the spiciness of the chilli and on your taste; chop small, include seeds or not according to taste
dried coriander: lots
dried cumin: even more

mix it all up and eat with tortilla chips. also amazing with grilled/fried salmon on fresh rocket with sweet potato fries (also really easy: skin, chop up, sprinkle with olive oil, pinch of salt and bake).
