About Me

Once a childhood videogame fanatic, I now look for the opposite. My sporadic brainyism is applied to the wide wide world. I've been doing a mixture of traveling, schooling, and jobbing. Farmer, cook, graphic designer, construction worker, teacher... who knows! Trying things out is fun.

P.S. I've been noticing some of the issues regarding conflicting understandings of couchsurfing's use and community since its restructure. I had no idea about these changes and just want it on record that I'm a traveler and interested in surfing as a form of cultural exchange, even if I'm currently traveling domestically. I've traveled abroad, but the US is a big and diverse place too.

CURRENT MISSION

I'm exploring the Pacific Northwest this April as I go from Minnesota to California for a second season working at a fantastic resort. I've only ever driven through the area in the past, now I have the time for more. I'm staying at a couple of Organic farms on my way down. I hope to meet some people and see what sights I can.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because sharing travel with others is the best part!

I've WWOOFed several times and loved it. People I've crossed paths with have recommended couchsurfing, but I never made the plunge until now.

Interests

Making:
Music, drawings, food, graphic designy things, paper snowflakes, cookbook.
Healthy life habits and rhythms.
Group activities done in good spirits.
Seeing someone express what they care about.
Gaining knowledge.
Sharing said knowledge.
Exploring nooks and crannies of the world
Wondering how and why.

Music, Movies, and Books

I have a thing for Acoustic Fingerstyle Guitar. If you've never heard it, look it up! More broadly, here is a smattering of artists I like: Bella Fleck, Justice, Fleetwood Mac, Django Reinhardt, Antoine Dufour, Philip Glass, Devo, Kaki King, CCR, Brother Android, Ratatat, Zoe Keating.

I don't watch much in the way of TV anymore, but some things that come to mind are: Lost in Translation, Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, Wes Anderson Films, Coraline, Firefly, There Will be Blood.

Books I've read/had around lately are Between the World and Me, East of Eden, American Terroir, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Flour Water Salt Yeast, Thinking: Fast and Slow, and Walden.

Podcasts: Moth radio hour, Radiolab, TED Radio Hour, Science for the People, Freakonomics, This American Life.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of my favorite adventures was hiking through Colca Canyon in Peru. Four days solo with hardly a traveler in sight, staying in little mountain villages. A highly recommended alternative to the Machu Picchu tourist fest.

Teach, Learn, Share

Did you know there was once a small, isolated native american tribe living off of the eastern Canadian coast?!? They were the last remnant of pre-eskimo culture and rode on inflated walruses, but perished from disease shortly after western contact in the early 1900s...

What I Can Share with Hosts
