About Me

Hello! My name is Caleb. Although, I am originally from the Chicagoland area, I have lived in Michigan ever since I graduated University in 2016, staying near Flint and in Grand Rapids. Currently, I am embarking on a 5 month long trek around Europe from Spain to Turkey. My intention is to learn about other cultures, practice Spanish, hike some beautiful mountains, and meet new people.
Currently, I work online for VIPKID, a company that connects Chinese kids with English teachers. I love working remotely because it allows me to travel. All I need is reliable WiFi connection.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

During college, I had many roommates from other countries, especially in Europe. Our apartment became such a hub for people from different countries that we called it The United Nations. We hosted many CSers in our apartment. They came from places like Germany, Russia, France, Poland, Netherlands, and Ecuador.
Now after hosting many CSers, I'm ready to start traveling the globe myself. I'm on Couchsurfing because I want to have the experience that me and my roommates provided at The United Nations, in which different people from all over the world connected and exchanged stories.

Interests

I love cooking delicious food, bicycling, reading books, and writing poems. I am a drummer so I really enjoy making music with my friends. What I live for are late night conversations over tea or coffee where we discuss questions of nature, the future, the meaning of life, etc.
I have been a spiritual seeker all my life so I am perennially fascinated by Buddhism, Taoism, folklore, and mythology. Alan Watts, Ram Dass, and Terence McKenna have been some of my biggest influences.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm not particularly fond of movies but music and reading are my passions. Some of my favorite books are the Tao Te Ching, The Little Prince, The Razor's Edge, The Dharma Bums, and The Hobbit.
As for music, I like to listen to all sorts of musics from hip hop to the blues, but rock n' roll & metal are my favorites. I enjoy Americana rock n' roll like Bruce Springsteen, Jimi Hendrix, Neil Young and Crosby, Stills, and Nash. I'm also a big metalhead, favoring early 70's acts like Black Sabbath, Budgie, and Led Zeppelin.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In Spring of 2015, I traveled to Northern Ireland where I volunteered with a group of former combatants who are working to restore relationships that were broken during the Troubles.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you English, how to write haiku, and how to cook vegetable stew.
I want to learn about you and your culture. I especially want to learn more Spanish.
I would love to share stories and meals with you.
