About Me
ABOUT ME
I was born and raised in Wisconsin.
I live with and manage a 35 acre organic vegetable farm that is also a nonprofit education center. Teaching people sustainable agriculture, permaculture, gardening. We have a beautiful, small community of young farmers.
Spent a year traveling the US.
Spent the last several farming and learning a trade.
I play in bands and do that sorta stuff.
I'm up for adventure!
I'm mellow, but can get mighty wild when the time is right.
PHILOSOPHY
Someone very dear to me said this.
"You understand with your brain. But where does that lead us? While you are talking I watch your arms and chest. Well, what are they doing? They're silent. They don't say a word. As though they hadn't a drop of blood between them."
From that day words stopped meaning so much. A tap of the foot or a bob of the head wasn't enough, I had to dance. Hearing it wasn't enough, I had to feel it. I stopped wanting to simply observe, I needed to interact, I needed to reciprocate.
I once asked a friend who spoke very little English whether they believed in global warming, they took a few seconds to muster up the words and finally answered with "I believe in everything."
It stuck.
There is magic all around us. Real magic, in the wind and the water and the soil and the flora. Never lose your sense of wonder.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love the stories and sharing of experiences. I also know the value of having an open door and warm shower while you are traveling. I believe one of the greatest virtuous is hospitality.
In one of my all time favorite books, the protagonist meets and old man who welcomes him into his house. They share a meal ant the old man talks of how his grandfather had never gone several miles out of town, how he had walked the streets at dusk searching for visitors, and how he would invite them in. He quoted his grandfather saying "why go to the world, when the world can come to me."
I don't wholly subscribe to that, and would change it to say "when I am not going to the world, let the world come to me."
