About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Boldly going.
ABOUT ME
I'm native to the Portland, Oregon area and love the Pacific Northwest. I love showing people around the area, whether we're doing pub crawls/eating out/catching live music, or going to the coast/hiking in the mountains/having outdoor adventures.
My next trip: I will be visiting New York City in a few months (November). I'll be hanging out with friends, including some met through couchsurfing. I'll be looking for a friendly, laid-back host for a few of the nights I'll be in town.
I plan to visit the venues, bars, restaurants, and other places that my local friends enjoy; not do anything particularly touristy (not my style, and this won't be my first time in the city). Looking forward to meeting some more locals and enjoying my week or so in town!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
In the recent past, I've hosted many couchsurfers at my old house here in Portland. I have less space to host now, but still host occasionally. I've attended a couple of local CS gatherings. I haven't yet surfed on others' couches myself, while traveling, but I'd like to try doing so in the near future.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
See "How I participate"
Also, have had a lot of fun with surfers in the past. One of our past couchsurfers ended up moving in with my old roommates, months after surfing with us, and is now in a country-spanning relationship with one of those former roomies of mine. Love via couchsurfing: collective 'aaawww.'
Interests
It seems redundant to list 'travel' here. I enjoy experiencing the local culture while seeing the sights and having adventures; not doing the 'touristy' things.
I also love music (as long as it's good; I have eclectic taste) and going to live shows, reading (mostly satire, sci-fi/fantasy, history, science, graphic novels), bicycling, running, hiking, camping. I love animals and work for an animal welfare non-profit.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Just one? I have climbed mountains and hiked forests on archaeological survey, and have discovered sites of ancient human habitation while doing so. I think that's pretty amazing.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'd be glad to help people get better at speaking/reading English, if interested. I have an advanced degree in English writing and publishing.
I'd love to learn more languages, myself, and improve my basic skills in German, Italian, and Spanish.
