About Me

Very liberal, polite, outspoken guy. Looking forward to meeting people regardless of gender, race, political/religious views, sexual orientation, the music they're into, and so on.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to give people the feeling of presence and belonging they're missing in a place they've never been. I can also be their midwife, their cultural accoucheuse, and as I reiterate and present my country's beauties and points of interest I rediscover them and see how marvellous it really is.

Second of all, having met some of the most interesting individuals through cs, colorful, deeply original people, I was only left craving more.

Interests

I'm constantly expanding my horizons, trying to know as much as one can about the world and the human mind. I indulge in calm, laid back, afternoon talks over a glass of wine.

I try to be my own screen, actor, director; being strapped to a chair in consecutive 1-2 hour squalls looking at endless TV shows or movies seems to me like quietism.

The over-empowerment of fashion, popular music, gadgets, cars, boozing, drugs and millennial slash pop culture linguistic bailiwick bore me out if my wits.

Music, Movies, and Books

I read major literature, some of my favorites being Thomas Pynchon, Milan Kundera, Bertrand Russell, Jorge Luis Borges, Gogol, Boris Pasternak. Some of my all-time favorite philosophers are Georges Bataille, Slavoj Zizek and Emil Cioran. My literary hero, though, is Christopher Hitchens... who nonetheless is runner-up to Fernando Pessoa. I read Pessoa like my second Bible, the first one being Nietzsche's 'Also sprache Zarathustra'. What am I saying?! My all-time all-time -- after a ten hour long excursion through denominational hermeneutics -- Alejo Carpentier... but still, you can't argue that Ian McE...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I know plenty of people would apprehend that there's nothing to see in South Dakota, but as you make your way west there's this big lake right off a narrow highway that slopes through the Black Forest. The lighting there really makes you feel like you're in the last place on Earth where the sun sets. I parked the car facing the lake, turned on the headlights and drank beers and juice with a friend until all you could see was the lake covered by the gloomy xenon light and the dim star tapestry above.

That and we busted down the car in the same spot one week later, on my birthday, and we walked a bit on foot to try to find someone to take us back to the city, darkness approaching soon, and a really eery summer rain started to pour before the last 5 minutes of sunset. We stumbled upon a group of 10-12 wild horses - most of them black, tall - that ran right past us to find cover in a small hand of woods; we followed. The insanely beautiful beings allowed me and my friend to sit underneath one horse each, pushing upon the hot belly with our backs so we could get warmer(the rain had already passed through our shirts) until the rain stopped. It felt like time never ticked inside any quadrant, car trouble long forgotten, space narrowed to one simple enclave: me, my friend, the wild horses, the rain, the patch of forest.

Teach, Learn, Share

Not open to monologues/quoting. If you're an open book, then let's talk.

What I Can Share with Hosts

The same thing I can offer my guests: food (I can cook), drinks (I can buy), a plump sense of humor (I can joke). I'm joking, I can't joke. The hell am I saying? Lol.
