About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To occasionally escape from the swamp where I am currently mired (i.e. Houston, Texas). I've been here way too long to suit my itchy feet.
ABOUT ME
I am generally quiet, detached, and analytical. I generally keep to myself and try to stay out of the way - though not for hostility's sake. It is simply my nature. Having grown up all over the world, I take the idiosyncracies and tastes of others in stride, and feel no intrinsic need to find or create unity. I prefer that people are different, with different tastes and different ideas. I dislike xenophobia, as it is directly contrary to my ingrained xenophilia, but I will generally prefer to avoid it rather than rail against it (which is, in my opinion, hopeless, given human nature).
PHILOSOPHY
No doubt the universe is unfolding as it should - it doesn't require my interference. The Earth is a very, very tiny thing, and ultimately not very important (in the capital 'I' sense), which doesn't stop it from being an object of interest and beauty, worthy of appreciating for what it has to offer.
Don't take yourself too seriously - words to live by.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I share my home with a roommate who is a good deal more shy and sensitive than I am. [I myself am less shy than simply aloof.] As I am not the sole authority over my living space, I cannot simply guarantee a place for others to stay, even if I wish to.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've only couchsurfed once so far: myself and a friend stayed with BDreams in Minnesota in January of 2008. It was deliciously cold - the kind of cold that starts draining the life from you as soon as you walk outside: it was beautiful! Having an insider's view to rely on was great, and BDreams was very friendly and accommodating.
In unofficial terms (couchsurfing wise) I have crashed at the homes of people that I've only known second (or even third) hand in the course of various travels.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In the course of my travels I've seen many things I would call amazing - in my opinion there are amazing things to be seen in every place and time. The vast desert of Saudi Arabia, the mountains of British Columbia, the winters of Grande Prairie, great mosques in Pakistan, the monumental pastels of St Petersburg, Lenin's Square, most of Paris, the tranquility of Nottinghamshire, and on and on.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm currently working on a magnus-opum-length Theory of History, based on a comprehensive view of all human societies, at all times and in all places.
I've increasingly found that no piece of knowledge or experience can fail to enrich my understanding and appreciation of reality.
