About Me

Hi! I’m Callin, 24/F, from China and have been studying in the U.S for a couple of years. Currently studying/ traveling in Valencia and the rest of the cities in 🇪🇸 Spain.

(I’m pretty new to Couchsurfing and the CS concept, but I’ve been “couchsurfing” at friends’ places a lot, when travelling. My rating is a 5/5 lol, and I have always gotten great feedback for being clean, quiet, and easy to communicate with.)

🤖:AI is everywhere right now, shaping how people live, work, and imagine the future. Studying it has made me think less about machines and more about humans—how we think, how we choose, how we feel, and what a human life can be in a world we are co-creating with technology. In some ways, learning AI forced me to reflect on my own life and what I want to do with it. And what I can do with my life, while AI can't.

Graduate life can be overwhelming, so I’m taking a break—maybe a pause, but maybe more of a small escape. I hope this trip isn’t solely about running away from the storm. I am hoping to see it as part of a longer journey, where I observe, listen, and experience how people think and live in ways that no model, code, or research on Axiv can fully capture.

I have always been fascinated by conversations, quiet moments, and everyday human details—the things that don’t show up in datasets. I believe understanding people happens not only through the ivory tower of academia, but through being present with others, in real places, at real moments.

🧑‍🎓:I studied psychology, data science( AI), and education, so I’m always curious about people, learning, and how things work.I love art history, museums, volunteering with kids, and spending time in parks or in nature with my cat or dog. I’ve also binged watching way too many TV shows and documentaries.

Most of all, I enjoy genuine, heart-to-heart connections with people from different backgrounds. I am socialable, chatty, and a good listener in person, but I am muted on social media as I prefer face-to-face connections.

I speak English and Chinese fluently, some Korean, Spanish, and a bit of French. :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It took me many years—and a lot of effort—to realize that it’s okay to give myself space and time, physically and spiritually. That it’s okay to pause, to travel, and to see the world as it is, with my own eyes and feelings.

Right now, I’m more in a phase of recovery and self-searching. If you ask me what I do, or what I plan to do next, you might hear me say “no sé.” I used to hope I’d find clear answers in books, but I didn’t. So now, instead of searching for answers, I want to see how other humans live—how they breathe, how they face life, and how they stay calm in a world that’s always changing.

When I travel, I really value connecting with people from different parts of the world and listening to the stories that shape who they are.

I’ve always loved meeting people from different cultures. Ever since I was a kid, it feels almost genetic—some kind of social DNA—to embrace people, to learn from everyone. I’ve spent much of my life in diverse living and learning environments, where we connect more as humans than as labels.

Music, Movies, and Books

I’m open to almost anything, just not really into dance/EDM or horror/thriller films, or “chicken soup” stories like 10 Keys to Build Your Financial Success 😖

My forever fav book is Totto-Chan: The Little Girl at the Window.
I read it when I was eight, and it has stayed with me ever since, shaping how I see the way people relate to one another and what education really means.
