About Me
Hellooo. My name is Callum and I'm from Canada (west coast). I currently live in Montreal where I teach French and spend my days cooking interesting meals, interior decorating, and watching movies (daily), with the occasional poetry reading.
I'm a good talker and love language, whether that's English (any variety!) or another language that I might be learning. I like to discuss art, cultural differences, politics, writing, and many more topics. I'd be happy to shoot the breeze with you and learn about what's happening in your corner of the world, or many test my limits and head out to a show or event together. I'm looking to push my boundaries and live a little, and I thought couch surfing could be a good way to meet people.
I've done two degrees in history and French. I've been to Europe and Japan and hope to head to Taiwan and Korea in the next few years. I've worked in Canada's last pornographic movie theatre (Cinéma l'amour), so I always have an interesting story to tell. I really love places that manage to survive despite the odds and in Montreal I spend lots of time in old dinners eating smoked meat sandwiches and liver steaks and writing about it.
I am a writer and put out "zines" (small independent publications) that I distribute in Montreal and New York at zine fairs. Scissors, type-written pages, glue, photographs I took and printed off, etc., all find their way into my projects. I always have a couple copies with me.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm on a trip in January and February in the UK and Europe. Escaping the -15 degree weather over here! I'll be heading to Scotland after a road-trip with my English family from London to Manchester and Liverpool. We're interested in working class and industrial history in the area. I'm also hoping to have some "British cuisine." My ancestors are from Scotland. They left Inverness in 1860 for Canada. And yet I've never really met any Scots!
If you can host me in Glasgow February 3rd, 4th, and 5th, it would be much appreciated. After Glasgow, I go to Inverness and the to Edinburgh.
