Hey, I’m Callum. I’m 18 years old and from the little corner of the world, New Zealand known for yellow kiwi fruit and lots of sheep.

I began travelling with my first trip to Japan in 2017 after studying Japanese for 2 years before that! I instantly fell in love with the country and was set that it must be the best country in the world. Since then I have returned to japan again in which I competed in a Japanese speech competition. Again my perception changed on japan.

Recently I have been travelling around south east Asia solo in which i have learnt so many more things about the world and myself! It’s so much fun discovering the people and culture of a country. But my favourite thing is learning the local language, even if it’s just 10 phrases it’s amazing to see the locals hearts open to you when you speak their language. In the near future I want to become conversational in korean, Spanish, Italian and maybe thai!

In the future I think it would be super cool to travel around to multiple countries, complete a working holiday there, work jobs and volunteer along the way whilst learning the local language in full immersion. Before settling back to what people call the “normal world” of 9-5pm 40 hour a week work.... OR maybe not. I dream of one day being a digital nomad and running my own business online.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to see a different side to the countries I visit. Not only the backpacker and tourist areas. I want to hear about your perspective of the world and live daily life with my future hosts. That includes possibly going to the markets, shopping and then cooking as I love to cook! If you can teach me the local cooking styles I can help cook a feast! I’m into healthy food and fitness also!!
