About Me

Hello! My name is Cameron Hart and I'm currently living in Toledo, Ohio working as a summer intern at a newspaper called The Toledo Blade. I spend my fall, winter , and spring at Penn State University in Pennsylvania studying Visual Journalism and Business. I enjoy traveling and photographing almost everything I see. I love meeting new people and learning about the cultures they live in or have experienced. I'm an active distance runner, camper, hiker, and pretty much anything related to adrenaline. As a wanderer at heart I often will travel without a plan because I like to go with the flow. This style of traveling as lead me to see some amazing things and meet even more incredible people.

CURRENT MISSION

Each and everyday I wake up with the mind set to challenge myself to understand the world and people around me. I never want to become complacent. I think there are so many stories that need to be told and through my travels and meeting new people I wish to listen, share and document those stories for the world to hear.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The couch surfing community is one of kind. I think what I love most about CS is that its bringing back the human connection. From my grandparents generation to my parents generation to my own generation I've see how the human connection is slowly disappearing and just how valuable it is for us to interact with each other. I love the idea of couch surfing because traveling is supposed to be an experience not just for yourself but the people you're with and meet along the way. Couch surfing brings you into new cultures and homes and allows you to see places from an entirely new perspective. Hotels are boring anyways :p

PHILOSOPHY

A bird is safe in its nest - but that is not what its wings are made for

Old friends pass away, new friends appear. It is just like the days. An old day passes, a new day arrives. The important thing is to make it meaningful: a meaningful friend - or a meaningful day.

Interests

I take my camera everywhere with me. I'm constantly updating my website and social media platforms with my photos and adventures. I take special interests in photographing unusual nature, social issues, and interesting people with unusual stories. I love the idea that has stemmed for "Human of New York" and I try to use this project as an inspiration when I'm documenting someones story. I also love minimalist camping and I consider hanging my hammock a hobby.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I traveled to Cuba in November 2015 to photograph the Penn State Men's Baseball team as they played a five game series against Cuba's best baseball teams. Just before diplomatic relations had been restored between the United States and Cuba I was able to experience the authentic Cuban Culture (without too much Western Influence). I ate at Fidel Castro's personal chef's restaurant in Old Havana. The waiters kept bringing plates upon plates of some of the best food I've ever had. I also drank at the bar where Ernest Hemingway invented the daiquiri.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach anything photography, video, multimedia related. I'm also tech savy. I can teach longboard/skateboard and I can build a fire with almost anything. I'm an expert over the fire cooker. I can cook some of my families secret recipes. I would like to learn more about cultures, languages, and its always been a dream of mine to learn how to surf.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Cooking is a great way to get to know someone and enjoy a good meal. I think food is a universal language we all share.
