ABOUT ME
The other day I was catching the train in England - i'm Australian - there was a big sting on ticket checking, i.e. fining people. You see the rails and metro are privately owned in England (a relic of the Thatcher days). The free-market is suppose to drive the price of goods and services down. In actual fact the thing which drives prices down is competition. But in reality the consumer cannot exercise choice, they must ride the train, and so there is a consensus between the companies to increase the price of the ticket, keep the trains only barely functioning, and employ ticket checkers to make sure people pay. So we arrive at the point: I was walking in to the train station (I could see the checkers in the distance) and a man walking the other way passes me his ticket and says "i'm on my way home, have this, but pass it on to the next man". Pass it on to the next man. In that moment it all clicked. I imagined if we all passed our tickets on to the next man. It costs us nothing but caring. We could take back the rail. I imagined it expanding into a revolution. We could take back the whole world like this.
