I've had a great experiences both as a host and surfer.
I like to be a host and show people around if I have time, or just to hang out with new people. A nice change to the daily routine!
When I'm a surfer I love the local advice. I've been to so many good restaurants for example thanks to people that hosted me. I've never really liked the Lonely Planet or travel guides. There's no better way to know about the place you're visiting than from the locals.
