About Me
I operate a B&B but am willing to host couchsurfers if I have availability.
I live near a river and like kayaking and swimming in it. I travel frequently. This year I spent a week in France touring Romanesque churches, hiking and swimming. Earlier in the year I scuba dove in Mexico (my favorite dive was into a cave), and visited Sri Lanka with my daughter and son, where we explored ruins. This fall I will hike the Narrows in Zion National Park.
Locally, I like to forage wild foods which I use in my B&B, trail run when possible, tend to many fruit and nut trees which I've planted at my B&B in the country.
Before opening the B&B, I was a long-time science and natural history teacher, which ultimately led me to found a nonprofit for training science teachers in Afghanistan. I gave a TED talk on that subject.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
My son and daughter couchsurf and told me they thought I would enjoy hosting interesting guests, meeting new people. My husband died two years ago and couchsurfing could be a way to keep me lively and interested in other people

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Founded the nonprofit Classrooms Across Cultures to train science teachers in Afghanistan, where I traveled 12 times over 10 years, traveling often on my own to far places to hold training seminars. Gave a TED talk about this.
Teach, Learn, Share
I know lots about the local history and natural history of the region, including hiking, swimming, flora and fauna, kayaking spots, wild foods to gather in season.
I'm a good listener
