About Me

Hi everybody!, I'm Juan, I'm 22 and I'm almost finish my career in Law and Political Sciences at UIS; I am really passionate about learn interesting things from other cultures, take awareness about the different beliefs that we have as individuals cause I do believe that something that make our world such a special place is the diversity of cultures, religions, life styles, customs, etc, so as a lawyer and above of that as future political scientist I really would like to gain knowledge from those differences that make us and our countries or nations specials ones, so I think that no matter where do you come from? or how do you look like? every single person in the world has something special to teach, to tell and ofc to learn of, that is the sense of life, live to serve, to take the risk of make your life an adventure, and turn up into a better options those things that society needs to change to make our world a better place to live.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I was blessed to have an opportunity to go abroad and have a kind of experience that let me grow up more than as a professional as a human being, I do believe you are able to learn more from those kind of experiences than from the indoctrinated education, if I have the opportunity to live those kind of enrichment experiences, I'll go for it, so these sort of platforms not just let me live that from home, it also let me help those ones who wants to make a difference, to know the world, to learn from us, to make a contribution, to change the system, to serve someone who need what you have to offer; Life taught me that we are just more than a crowd of people, we are a family who needs to cross the cultural boundaries instead of the ocean borders, a squad who have to support each other instead of plant the seeds of intolerance, disrespectful, hatred and envy, so that's what I want to do it, learn and help, it doesn't cost a thing for me, more if I know that I'll help someone who need it and ofc if I've the pleasure of keep practicing my English with someone who speak it.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love all those songs from the 80s and 90s, specially those that belongs to the rock genre, like lep zeppelin, Queen, the Beatles, Pink Floyd among others; Colombian music, I like Reggaeton, I know is Puerto Rican but we have our own version, I like also Latin ballads, some vallenatos and maybe cumbias, but I doesn't like rancheras, well, there are some exceptions and I can handle it but most of them I really doesn't like it, I love the whole stuff relate with history, politics and civil rights, I am able to watch whatever kind of movies but I'd prefer those ones relative with comedic, history and specially scary movies, movies such a White Chicks, Selma, and The Help, about books my favorite one is One Hundred Years of Solute by Gabriel García Márquez btw my favorite writer is Howard P Lovecraft, I love all his mysterious plays, other thing I really enjoy is listening audio-books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was in the States, for about six months, with a intercultural interchange, stayed there was an awesome experience!, it let me know better who I am, what I have to keep with me and what I have to improve about myself in life, I learned that no matter what, every kind of experience always will bring you good and bad points but it just about enjoy the good ones, and learn from the bad ones, ofc never give up to your dreams and always keep looking for the adventure, life is about go around the world, let yourself feel free, feel independent, sometimes feel failed, but that is life, is prove to yourself that there is not a major obstacle than your mind, and that's what I want to live every single second of my life, live to learn, to keep going and to chase my lifelong dreams; Through that experience I got the chance to visit many cities and go there all by myself at the first time away of my country and without my family, I felt like wow, you know, when you realize that you done something that u thought u couldn't make one day, there isn't such a good feeling like that, that is the feeling I want to keep with me my whole life, every single time that I achieved something, that's why I want to keep looking for the adventure; we as a youth must be dreamers, but those kind of dreamers who are fighters too.

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to share my sincerely friendship, to teach my language which is Spanish, to teach the good points about my country, about my nation, and about my people, when I was in the US I realized the people has a wrong perception about us, and that sometimes could be disrespectful, it could hurt, I mean every single country has a dark chapter in its history line, behind its nowadays successful legacy there was something wrong, and ofc we are no the exception; but I just want to hear the people out there talk about Colombia due to the good points too, just in the way they and we do with the other countries, so I just want to teach that we are very nice and welcoming people, able to help, to learn, and change our history; and how will we do it?, in the same way that countries that one time failed did it, learning, I want to learn about how those countries were able to change their history, what did they overcome?, why was necessary to change?, how works their systems?, all about the incredible journey that they took to reach this point, the spot where they are now, it's not just about learn from those who are good now, it's about to learn what is happen now around the world?, learn about what is happen here?, how can we change that?, what do they have to offer us?, what does the world have to help us?, and what do we have to offer to the world?.

What I Can Share with Hosts

First my friendship, second my home with no fee cost, but just in the way that it is an experience where we are able to learn from each other, to help each other; we are a very close family, it is the first time my parents are able to live these kind of experience, I want to teach them that is a good idea take awareness about the international understanding, we are able the share one bed, a closet and a shared bathroom, if the guest could be a native English, French or Chinese speaker it could be better just in the way that we can talk and I can practice my English and my French as well and learn a little bit of Chinese, the main request is speak English or Spanish at least, if you want to discuss another point, could you send me a DM?, we wanna share our culture, our food and ofc show you, how beautiful are the landscapes of my country!
