CURRENT MISSION
Meander to the farthest outpost possible...
ABOUT ME
I love to be outdoors. I love the feeling of first being on the road and watching the houses and city fall away beside you and then suddenly you are out in the vast, open expanses and everything seems simpler, happier and much more free. I love to write, read and scribble. I love my camera and try to take it everywhere with me, I have also recently bought a plastic camera which I am still coming to terms with. Hopefully one day soon my photos will be less blurry and easier to decipher.
I can't play any instrument which pains me and I must rectify that, but I listen to music almost constantly, Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, Rolling Stones, Beatles and The Mamas and The Papas all make me happy. As do Belle and Sebastian, The Tallest Man on Earth and Sufjan Stevens. I am still hesitant about embracing Dubstep and am unsure if I ever truly will. I genuinely love people and meeting new people is my favourite thing to do in the whole world I think. There is so much joy and excitement that can be generated between a group of people. It's wild.
Anyway, having wandered over from Melbourne I am now in San Francisco before heading north hopefully to Alaska and travelling more of this incredible country. Eventually I will end up in Central Asia, but who knows when.
I did at one stage want to live in New York and be cool like the Strokes. But having now been to New York I would much rather live somewhere where there are less people, more trees and cleaner air.
PHILOSOPHY
Life is one long stream of consciousness. Be wild and enjoy it.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Our house is a bohemian shack. We always have people from overseas staying but at the moment our house is full. But if anyone wants to enjoy Melbourne with little money...

Music, Movies, and Books
Books, yay. I have just read To The Lighthouse again by Virginia Woolf and I love the flow of it so much. It feels like a giant web that encapsulates all the characters. Having surfaced from a recent Beat phase, I still have many fond memories of reading Burroughs on a train from SF to LA. I loved the Rum Diaries by Hunter S Thompson and am scared to see the movie because I don't know how it could compare at all with the book. I really like Graham Greene as an author and there are so many others that I can't think of right now. Definitely keen on Harry Potter though. So good.
Music varies depending on mood, but I think these guys are probably staples that don't vary so much, Sufjan Stevens, The National, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Dandy Warhols etc. I also quite like Bat for Lashes, Belle and Sebastian and lots of old music such as Donovan, The Rolling Stones, Strangeloves etc.
I have a wild passion for documentaries. The best one I think I've seen is called Payback: Debt, the Shadow Side of Wealth, which is based on a book by Atwood. IT was amazing. But in terms of recent films I have seen that I liked, I loved Samsara, Anna Karenina was beautiful, Never Let Me Go was good and Let the Right One In too. There are too many.
We'll talk in person.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Nepal. The most amazing country ever. I will tell you in person over a steaming cup of tea, one day.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can't play a musical instrument (alas) so that is something I would definitely like to learn. But I can cook a delicious array of vegetarian food and share tales from all corners of the world. I would love to learn more about sustainability and permaculture.
