Overview
About Me
Grew up in a small town in outback Australia called Alice Springs, which is known for being close to the world famous Uluru (Ayres Rock) attraction.
I have recently moved to Brisbane with my girlfriend Veronica and we are currently living in Eagleby, which is a 25 minute drive to Brisbane city centre and a 40 minute drive to the Gold Coast. We have a nice 3 bedroom house with a very friendly and cuddly Kelpie dog named Cherry. Veronica is a nurse so she does shift work, but I’m normally around which is unfortunate because Veronica is probably the nicest person you’ll ever meet! I’m a close second… okay, maybe third 🤷♂️ 😂
We were living in Brisbane city but found the day to day life a bit hectic and since moving out to the outer suburbs it’s a lot more chill and my vibe. I work close to the city so I am very happy to provide a ride in, or if you want to head to the Gold Coast can drop you to the nearest train station. My work schedule is very flexible, I want my fellow CS guests to have the best time.
I was lucky enough to complete my second around the world trip last year, did 2 months in Nth America, 5 in south, then went to Europe and Africa. But don't worry, I am not one of those guys that thinks he is a know-it-all when it comes to travelling. I am just very grateful to have had the opportunity to travel as much as I have. Happy to share my stories and experiences
I'm a pretty open minded and relaxed person, with a very dry and sarcastic sense of humour. Don't take anything I say seriously, my life's moto is "Meh, what's the worst that could happen?" turns out, for me the worst that can happen is jumping of a 10m cliff hitting the water and dislocating a shoulder... haha circa Norway 2023
I am a big photographer and videographer, I'm always out taking photos and making little travel videos. Nothing fancy or anything, just a fun little hobby to make some good memories to look back on. Feel free to stalk my insta, use it double check I'm not weirdo - @camtay06
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I started doing couchsurfing as a way to help travellers out with a free place to stay as its quite expensive to travel where I live. Turns out it was one of the coolest things I have done, as I have met some amazing people from all over the world. I had no intention to Couchsurf while I was travelling but getting to hang out and stay with someone local makes visiting a place that much more amazing!
I have been lucky enough to meet up and stay with many of the friends I made while hosting in Australia. I have had a few couchsurfers leave Alice Springs and then decide to come back and hang out. One became a semi-permanent part of the family and stayed on and off for 3 months! It's been amazing meeting other like minded people.
Music, Movies, and Books
I like any kind of music mainly into Funk/House, psychedelic rock/reggae and progressive metal. A real mixed bag or musical tastes.
Lately I have been learning how to DJ, and I can see my taste in music slowly shifting to house, drum & bass.
I play guitar, not in a band (yet) but if there is a guitar at a house, I'm grabbing it and I will strum the 3 songs I know. I also play drums but sold my drum kit when I moved to Brisbane.
Movies & TV - I don't really watch much movies, but enjoy ones that make think, I like watching Documentaries especially relating to the environment and other cultures/travel or history. TV shows, stranger things, rick and morty, the boys, community.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Define Amazing? Anything can be amazing if make it amazing! it's all about your mindset.
I just spent 6 amazing weeks volunteering in a small town in the Northwest Territories of Canada called Yellowknife, where I was able to witness some incredible nights viewing the Northern Lights! It was truly breathtaking!
I also volunteered teach kids soccer in the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador, I think they taught me more Spanish than I taught them soccer. I have also been to the most northern part of the world, and to the most southern part of the world (kind of - I didn't quite make it to Antarctica just the southern tip of Argentina).
Teach, Learn, Share
I can somewhat teach people how to play the guitar or happy to tinker with the DJ decks, and the very short history of the Australian culture. If you want to know about indigenous Australia I can shed some light on this topic :-)
Learn - anything and everything!
Share - great conversation, I can also show you some Australian "slang"
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can share with you all a comfy bed, a safe place to do washing with very reliable internet connection, a very friendly dog and a lot of laughs! I am very close to a lot of nice national parks and wetlands, myself and Cherry (my dog ) are always ready to head outdoors.
I can also share my knowledge and experience of travelling around, soon I will probably go on my third attempt at travelling around the world - yet to visit SE and Central Asia, the silk road is calling my name. I can also tell you about life living and working in remote central Australia, challenges facing Indigenous Australians in the region, being that I have worked in Healthcare for the last 10 years. Or I can teach you guitar/drums/DJing or photography!
