About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Give back more to life than I take.

ABOUT ME

Tall, dark and handsome. Ha ha. Just kidding. I'm a goof ball who loves the outdoors. I figure it's important to be able to laugh at yourself, that way you don't take everybody else laughing at you the wrong way. : )

I've been consumed with work and am resolving to spend more time doing the things I love in life: playing music (particularly funk), enjoying time with loved ones, and spending as much time exploring the world and meeting more amazing people both near and far from home.

PHILOSOPHY

"It's better to regret something you did than something you didn't do." Anthony Keidis, Deep Kick (One Hot Minute)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've just started hosting people at my place, and have surfed at a couple locations so far (Hawaii, San Diego, Boston).

Not sure how many travelers come to Calgary for pleasure (it's a bit of an oil boom town, so most people come here to work), but if people are looking for a place hopefully I can help. Only issue for me are my work and travel schedules.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm a couch surfing novice! I have met awesome locals and travelers during my past journeys to South America and Europe and think couch surfing will be the perfect means to guarantee that we meet great people while traveling.

My couch surfing and hosting experiences have been amazing so far! Really looking forward to more awesome experiences with the vast human race!

Interests

Sweet Jesus... that's a loaded question. :)
Here we go. Music (world beats/funk/reggae/hip-hop/almost everything), desire to learn (culture, sports, music), laughing, outdoor activities (hiking, boarding, frisbee, basketball, paddle ball, surfing, chillin' in the sand, all of it).

I love meeting new people and getting an appreciation for their unique perspective and culture. That's why couch surfing is so wicked!

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: There's good stuff in any genre, but I'm a sucker for stupid comedies a la Dumb and Dumber, Anchorman, Borat... you get the idea. Love documentaries as well, particularly pertaining to history, and the impact / relationship of politics on economics and vice versa. A couple really good ones that I've seen lately are "Manufacturing Consent" (Noam Chomsky), "Unreasonable Man" (Ralph Nader), and "IOUSA" (US Debt crisis).

Music: too numerous to list. Funk and funky hip hop make me jiggle. Full respect for instrumentalists that you can feel their soul coming through their instruments (Hendrix as an example). Love the Chili Peppers, obscure funk artist, stuff that makes you want to get up and shake yo thang, blah, blah, blah.....

Books: Great travel books like the "Shadow of the Sun." I'm completely fascinated with social science books as well, such as "Blink", and "Tipping Point" by Malcolm Gladwell, "Freakonomics" and "Stumbling Upon Happiness".

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Got in a yelling match with James Brown during a concert in 2004. Don't worry, it wasn't a hostile exchange, we just yelled back and forth for about 10 seconds. He had a mic so I guess I gotta concede to him. : )

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: Bass guitar, great mountain biking and hiking spots in Canadian Rockies, I cook a mean chicken, : )

Learn: Spanish, Surfing, culture, anything else you are passionate about!

Share: Good times, friendship, see the authentic locations while traveling rather than getting caught in tourist traps

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Austria, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Laos, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, Peru, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Thailand, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

Canada
