ABOUT ME

About me? Well I am Canadian first and but I am of Chinese descent. My parents were born in China and immigrated to Canada almost 30 years ago.

I have spent most of my life in Canada, outside of my travels. I've also lived in Toronto pretty much all my life. Toronto is a great city, perhaps the most multi-cultural city in the world. Great place for food and to experience all different cultures in Canada's cultural mosaic. It also has amazing array of music and sports as well.

I went to the University of Waterloo for a 4-year program in Honours History with a minor in Peace and Conflict studies. I always had the desire to teach, but after graduating, I wanted to try doing some diffrent jobs before I committed myself to sitting behind a desk for the rest of my life.

I've been in the Canadian military for 10 years now as a reservist. I deployed to Afghanistan in 2010 for a 7 1/2 month tour of duty. It was perhaps one of the most enriching expreinces in my life. Although we had many ups and downs, it has forever changed the way I look at life.

Since my tour, I have taken the time to do some volunteer work with the Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity. Not to mention travelling, I just returned from 5 weeks in S.E Asia.

Before I settle down with a full time career I really want to take this window in time to go travel as much as I can to learn and exprience and better myself as a person.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Travelling the world one couch at a time. A month in my travels and I've been hosted by many wonderful people. Although at times surfing can be a last minute waiting game, it makes the experience of travelling much more fun!

Surfing has made me want to host as well. If you need a place in Toronto, I should have a couch (or floor) in September 2011.

Interessi

Fitness (crossfit, nutrition)
-I'm a pretty big into fitness and nutrition, although I'm not a crazy as some people in terms of diet/exercise. It's a personal hobby of mine and it is a big part of my job as well. Don't get me wrong, I like my beer and burgers, but everything is about balance in life. I tell all my friends to forget the magazine covers, just be healthy and live an active life.

Volleyball
-Haven't played court for ages, but I have fallen in love with beach over the last couple of years. Summer in Toronto, you can usually find me in the sand at the beaches.

Rock climbing
-So far have only done top-rope indoor climbing, although I hope to take my lead course in the near future. It's a new sport for me, but I'm really enjoying it, especially the mental aspect of it.

Outdoors
-Anything outdoors, I'm in.

Dogs
-I love dogs. The wierd thing is I never had one as a child, and had limited exposure to them when I was younger. One day in university, it was raining and I saw a poor dog tied up outside just getting soaked. After that, I started reading about them and of course wanting to get my own. I have a 5 year old Australian Shepherd named Oakley. We've been through it all and no matter how bad my day can be, he is always the brightspot in it.

Cooking
-I've taken some cooking classes in the past as well my father has been in the restaurant business for decades now, so I've picked up a few skills in the kitchen along the way. I don't have any particular cuisine I stick to, I just usually find something that looks good and try to make it. At home, my biggest limitation is just not have all the proper equipment to make wonderful dishes! I'm more then willing to help around the kitchen, or cook a meal
