About Me
Hey there! I'm Candace!
I'm currently studying in Jena, Germany for a semester and will be travelling around Europe for a few weeks. I study history and teaching with hopes of being a history teacher one day.
I'm a cat person, and die-hard fan of the Oxford comma. I like writing and sleeping and exploring new places!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Living in Germany for this semester is the first time I've lived outside of the United States, and it's been an incredibly meaningful experience. It's given me a real desire to travel more and learn about other cultures, not as a tourist or student, but just as a human being. I feel like it's my responsibility as a human to learn about different ways of life and different cultures because that's the key to understanding different kinds of people, and I think on some level, everyone wants to be understood. What better way to learn about a culture than to have sleepovers with people who are a part of it?

Music, Movies, and Books
I appreciate all kinds of music (truly!), but my favorite genres are indie, pop, and punk. I've loved getting to know German music since I've been here -- Schmutzki and AnnenMayKantereit have been my jams of choice recently.
I love watching movies; I have a new favorite every day. All-time bests include How to Train Your Dragon, Moonrise Kingdom, Across the Universe, and Deadpool. Favorite TV shows include Game of Thrones (!!!!), New Girl, Parks and Recreation, The Office, and Jessica Jones.
Constantly wishing I had time to read more -- favorites include Harry Potter, The Lovely Bones, memoirs of Holocaust survivors, and historical fiction, like Heinrich Böll!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I work for a college newspaper in America, and I had the pleasure of interviewing the lead guitarist of Fall Out Boy, Joe Trohman (This might only be amazing to me as a huge Fall Out Boy fan).
