About Me
CURRENT MISSION
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” - Mark Twain
ABOUT ME
My name is Deana Petroccia, 27, I'm open-minded, easy going, active, vital and love cappuccinos, good company, travelling, nature & a good glass of wine.
My mom is Swiss, and my father Italian, therefore my Italian last name. However, I grew up in Switzerland and spent most of my life there. In 2007 I graduated as a primary school teacher and taught then for 1 year in a 5th grade elementary class. That was a great experience. After teaching in Switzerland I decided to move to New York City for a year, where my boyfriend is studying music. I studied English and worked as a Babysitter there. After spending most of my savings, I had to go back to Switzerland, where I taught 9th graders in Geography, History, German, English and Art. As soon as I saved some money, I went back to New York for studying music for two semesters. It was an amazing experience. I met lots of interesting people, broadened my mind, studied piano like crazy and enjoyed the city to the fullest. Anyway, I got a job offer back home in Switzerland and so I moved back. And here I am, teaching in a junior high school. I live with my Italian boyfriend in a pretty apartment back in my home town.
PHILOSOPHY
I love the smell of hay, when it dries in the sun. I like to listen to the sound a fizzy tablet when you throw it in a glass of water. I love to touch melting tar in summer with my naked toe. I like to smell the odor of oranges on my hands, after I peeled it.
Just with being aware of those small details, life can fully be enjoyed.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Friends of mine introduced me to CouchSurfing and I was immediately enchanted. I love the idea of getting in touch with new people, learn about their culture, language and lifestyle. I haven't surfed any couches, yet, nor have I hosted anyone, but I am absolutely curious to try it out:)
Interests
I recently got more and more interested in photography and attended a course in NYC. It was absolutely great! I love experimenting with my camera..My aim of doing photography is, to capture moments during my travels, which communicate authenticity..It's a challenge, but I'm working on it:) Recently I discovered the analog photography. We have a great darkroom here in my city. Developing your own taken pictures is a very fascinating experience.
An other passion of mine is music. I've played the piano since I was 7. I've played mostly classic, but would love to learn jazz.
I also like to read good books, laugh, share experiences, snowboard, cook, bake, and of course travel:)
