Enjoy the early years of our beautiful children’s lives!
ABOUT ME
Shane and Abby are an early 40s couple who love the outdoors. We have twin kids and a toddler in charge of our hearts. Shane particularly loves the mountains and Abby particularly loves the water, so a house on a lake among mountaintops would be great for us. Most of this profile is about Abby, the account's owner.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Once I got active on the site, I jumped right in, surfing in France and Belgium and hosting 6 people at my house 2 days after getting back from Europe. I've loved the experience, and hope to be able to surf or host again soon. I might have to expand my summer road trip to stay with some new CS friends as well as old buddies.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've surfed with hosts in France, Belgium, United States, and China, and hosted a group of 6 couchsurfers for 3 weeks in my home. I've made connections for sleeping space through friends of friends and friends of nice people I met on buses long before I ever heard of CouchSurfing, and I'd like to be that friend of a friend who can host others through CS. We've also hosted travelers through other platforms, as well, who have been equally interesting and engaging!

Music, Movies, and Books
I love to dance, and house and latin music inspire me to move.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I discussed religion while standing in the shadow of Jesus (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), saw the sun set after 11pm in the southernmost city in the world, and jumped through a cloud with a parachute high over the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania, USA.
All of that pales in comparison to bring 2 little people into the world within one minute of each other, and helping them grow strong and happy.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm a language teacher by trade, so if you are traveling to a country that speaks Spanish or Portuguese, I might be able to help you brush up on your skills before you head out!
I would love to learn Russian and Korean.
I'm also fairly crafty, and I've taught middle school students to crochet, and like it! I also make my own soap (both pretty molding and goggles-required chemistry types), among other things. I'd be up for teaching or learning any cool crafts or skills.
Shane's first language was Korean, and Abby works hard during family visits to understand as much as she can. He was certified as a personal trainer and as a rock climbing guide. He might not be up to train or guide newbies outside of the mountaineering school he's involved with, but he's always looking for a climbing partner who's up for adventure!
What I Can Share with Hosts
My favorite CS experience was hosting a Thanksgiving dinner at my host's home for a group of about 12 other hosts and surfers. My traveling companions and I found traditional American foods in Paris, and cooked a full holiday dinner in a microwave and on a stove top, as our host's kitchen did not include an oven like the kitchens we're used to. The gathering was so wonderful, and the people so fun!
I would love to share an experience like this with another group of CouchSurfers, so even if there's no holiday in sight, maybe we could plan a Christmas in July!
