About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To create a skills based travel curriculum and a place where other travelers can go to learn how to travel better. To Step my way across the world, hand in had with my gorgeous Gabi and experience the diverse places and cultures this amazing planet has to offer!

ABOUT ME

I am a happily married Australian guy who is passionate about education, travel, adventure and living life to the fullest. I think it's really important to give back everywhere you do that and towards that endeavour I run my own travel blog headoutthere.com to help people travel better, safer, more efficiently and sustainably and in more comfort. I spent 7+ years as a teacher, 2 in Spain teaching English and 5 in Australia in primary schools teaching EVERYTHING! My partner, Gabi and I have been happily married for 5 years now and we've decided to take a jaunt around the world before settling down to have a family. We love food, wine, music, dancing, doofing, climbing, circus, beaches and mountains. We got plenty of fun stories to share and love to meet new people, make new friends and find out the secrets of the places we visit.

PHILOSOPHY

Don't worry, Be Happy!

We only get one life so why waste any of it. Our brains and bodies are incredible things and we should never stop finding new ways to use them and new things to learn!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I participate in a world wide effort to meet new people and make friends with people from different countries. i love foreigners and i love hearing their stories. i host and surf and i love to meet new people all together.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

without a doubt the best thing i do while i travel. I meet the most amazing and awesome people, everyone for the most part is kind and helpful and it is the best way to get to know a place. you don't need a book or a map if you have a local who is happy to offer information and everyone i've met so far was more than glad.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like pretty much all music except for top 40 crap and most commercialized hip hop and RnB music. I have fallen very heavily into a love of most types of electronic music.

I love movies but they have to be well written and so many aren't these days.

I'll always take a book recommendation. Good book Genre's are: Fantasy, Sci Fi, Muder Mystery, Non-Fiction. (E.G. of Non-fiction: I'm reading a book at the moment called The Brain That Changes Itself. it's about Neuroplasticity and is amazing! Another good example is the Four Hour Work week (self help books are fun).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have seen a lot of amazing bands live. I've traveled to some amazing places. If i were to tell you about all of them i would need a lot more space than i have here. Tell you what though;
GO SKYDIVING!!!! I absolutely loved it!

Teach, Learn, Share

Sharing. Here's a little nugget of travel knowledge from myself that i'd like to share with you:
Something that stood me in good stead as a traveler was to be relaxed as much as possible. don't stress, when traveling you have the freedom to go anywhere, do anything, take any path. So if you find that your plans don't work out as previously arranged, don't worry just think that this is a path you wouldn't have gotten to tread otherwise. don't think of it in terms of bad or good or worse or better; instead just think of it as different... a different path. if you change you mental attitude any "bad" occurance can turn out to be the best thing that happened to you. you never know.

Teaching. Well, to be honest I love to teach. I'm a professional fire twirler and a decent contact juggler and love to share my knowledge of these skills with people. it is my passion, not only do i hope to be able to fuel my travels with it, but i also hope to be able to enrich other peoples lives with it as i go. I'm also heavily into my martial arts and I love to adapt these principles and offer the benefits of them to anyone who's interested in easy and understandable ways. my greatest discovery at the moment is Qi Gong, which is like martial arts for your breathing. I've had sinus issues all my life and this is incredible, not just for the respitory system but for the muscles and the mind as well. I am by no means a master at the stuff (actually a glorified beginner) but I am always happy to impart what knowledge i have.

Learning: Languages! My first vagabonding experience was 6 months in Europe and it made one thing particularly prevelant... I need to learn more languages! I spent the next two years learning Spanish and I am going to live in Spain to become fluent. BUT! I would love to learn more, if i could choose it would be Japanese, German, Portuguese, Chinese, French (in no particular order)
Also, I am desperate to learn to do crazy stuff with my body... acrobatics, parkour, martial arts. I am working towards this but have been hindered by 5 shoulder dislocations and 2 reconstructions.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have an in depth knowledge of education.

If you've got kids, I'm great with them as I was a primary school teacher for many years. I can read them bed time stories, teach them how to read and write, teach you how to teach them, loads of other things.

I love circus, I can fire spin and contact juggle. Before teaching kids I was a solo circus performer and would create fire shows, acrobatic shows, etc. I'm a bit out of practice on the acrobatic front but if you can find me fuel, I'll happily put on a fire show for you.
