I am Irish but spent the last year living in Kentucky and will be moving to Suzhou, China in late August 2009. I have some pretty diverse intersts from judo which I have practiced on and of since 16 to Irish farmhouse cheesemaking which is the subject of my PhD thesis.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I will be living in a hotel for my first two months so wont be able to host but please please give me an email if you would like to meet for a chat or go sight seeing. Whether you are a fellow traveller or native Chinese I would love to meet you but be warned I have no Chinese language skills- yet!

Currently reading about Chinese history. I firmly believe that to undestand the present you need to know the past. I will read pretty much anything. When I need to laugh its Marian Keyes or travel books such as the classic 'Around Ireland with a Fridge' by Tony Hawkes!

A few weeks ago while in Kentucky I attended a workshop held by Proffessor Dora Wilkinson who was part of the first group of students admitted to the University of Kentucky following official desegregation. Meeting her was one of the highlights of my visit.

Piece of information I just learned if you come to China you have to bargain everywhere including clothing stores - 'pian yi yi dian' means cheaper - repeat it over and over!!
