About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To connect our world -- and to be connected with it -- through simple creativity and resting of the mind.

PERSONAL MISSION

To journey on a meandering, intuitive, word-of-mouth road trip, beginning in the continental US. It would look something like leaving my driveway and turning whichever way I intuitively felt to go. Then asking someone, maybe at the gas station or the grocery store: "What's something within a 2 -3 hour drive from here that would be cool to see or do?" It could be a hair cut, a taco truck, a swimming hole, a friend who has a song . . .

I've spent most of the past three years split between Austin, TX and Columbus, Ohio, helping out some family in Ohio, and going back to TX for respite.

PHILOSOPHY

Rest. Follow what feels good for you. Rest some more. Doodle. Rest. Tell it. Rest. Doodle some more. Stare at the sea. Do what feels good for you some more. Move around. Do new things. Rest. Doodle. Repeat. Adore.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have been on the move for 6-7 years, house sitting, staying with friends, care-taking beautiful properties in exchange for a home. Because of this, I haven't been able to host anyone in years, though when I had my own place, many travelers came through, and I was always thrilled to share. Many times the most spontaneous connections flowered the most!

I have mostly been in the Austin area for the past few years, and I anticipate getting on the move, so I'm updating my CS profile and saying hello! I'm eager to connect with cool new folks!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've done a lot of traveling and stayed with lots of friends along the way. I've also had lots of wanderers come through my dwellings. I am just getting started with the CS community, and I'm excited about it. Especially in the U.S. where we don't have as many travelers hostels or guest houses as you find in other countries, I'm happy to see us shifting to more community.

Interests

Resting, doodling, traveling, playing guitar and singing, making art, writing, The Therapy Booth, hearing music, encouraging relaxing, facilitating a beautiful style of self-inquiry called Living Inquiries. And I recently published a book and am coming out with a second very soon (update: both are published now!). They are booth doodling books, and are filled with fun and introspective prompts that you can use every day. I use my book every day, and I love it! It's at 365daysofdoodling.com and doodlebookjunior.com.

I also love to doodle with strangers, and I have a little YouTube channel (Doodling with Strangers) where you can see some of my awkward earnestness! Simple creativity for all!

Music, Movies, and Books

So many, I've avoided this section! Let me give you a few of each . . .

Music: Grateful Dead, The Wood Brothers, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Krishna Das

Movies: Deadman, The Full Monty, Scarecrow (1973), Fight Club, The Artist is Present

Also love a good TV series. Favorites: Deadwood, The Wire, Arrested Development, The Office, Parks and Recreation

Books: Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, The Power of Now, Love in the Time of Cholera, The War of Art, Just Kids (Patti Smith)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was gifted a five-week trip to Hawaii. I was there when I wrote this note, a few years ago: "I've just completed the Open Your Heart in Paradise retreat with Ram Dass, Krishna Das, Jack Kornfield, and friends, which was a real homecoming and a very profound gift. It was amazing to receive. What a deep heart offering! Being here and living on guidance and openness and love: also amazing."

Teach, Learn, Share

I can facilitate you in something called Living Inquiries (see Living Inquiries tab at www.thetherapybooth.com for an introduction), something only practiced by about 50 people in the world so far. It's beautiful, gentle, precise and like nothing you've ever experienced. Super helpful on any topic and any area of your life.

I can also spark creativity with my doodle classes. Here's a doodle prompt for you (remember, stick figures are welcome and even encouraged): what is something you've really want to try but haven't yet. Go.

And I can set up a booth like Lucy from Peanuts and have folks come by to get some in-the-moment support.

It's safe to rest.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can help you rest -- or rest with you -- and also encourage you to create -- and create with you! I can give you a Living Inquiries session or general coaching session, or just have some laughs. Everywhere I go, there is doodling, so be warned. You will doodle! Stick figures for the win! I'm encouraging, low key, mellow and easy going. However that translates to you, I'm happy to share!
