About Me

Hello couch surfing community. I am a 24 year old Canadian in San Antonio. I recently finished my undergrad in Political Science and Anthropology. I am interested in pursuing a career in journalism and communications, but honestly, I still am not sure. I am just another lost young person who wants to see the world and meet a lot of exciting people. I grew up near Toronto for most of my life and went to high school in San Antonio. My parents are from the Caribbean. I have travelled Western Europe and South Africa. I have a lot to learn and a lot to offer.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I moved home to San Antonio in December 2014 and I am willing to show travellers around the city while also joining them in learning more about the city. I am very friendly so get in touch!!

Interests

My biggest extra-curricular interest is the piano. I am also learning the guitar. So basically, I LOVE to jam. So anyone who has musical talents, join me. Music for me is the one time we can set aside our difference and enjoy something beautiful and soul stretching. I love to jam anywhere anytime.

Other interests include writing, national geographic, NPR, First Nations issues, social justice, feminism, crafts, cats, earrings, salsa, dancing in general (but especially salsa), jogging, dance dance revolution, American police culture, Shel Silverstein on repeat and more!!!!!

Music, Movies, and Books

I love ALL MUSIC! I am a massive Florence fan. She is one of my favourite artists. But my all-time favourite band is Portugal the Man. The bands I can listen to over and over again include Queen, Florence (this required repetition), any and all things Jack White, and the Black Keys. Sticking to my roots, I can listen to soca day-in and day-out, and salsa.

I have many favourite books. In fact, every book I read becomes my favourite so it's kind of hard for me to be objective. I am almost done the first game of thrones and I am currently reading An Inconvenient Indian.

I also have dozens of favourite movies. My absolute favourite comedy is Some Like it Hot. I can't even begin to list all of the others because the list is so long. But I take my movie-watching very seriously and love to talk about movies with other movie-lovers!

My favourite shows right now are Parks and Recreation and Orange is the New Black. I also watch Gilmore Girls and Lost religiously as an adolescent over and over again. I still need to finish Breaking Bad so nobody spoil that for me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I did a journalism internship in Cape Town South Africa. I worked for an independent paper that worked directly on behalf of locals who needed our help telling there stories. I really wanted to work for a big, mainstream news organisation until I had this experience. I felt more connected with the stories I was writing and I wasn't competing for stories, which can sometimes rush fact acquisition and destroy the integrity of news. I want to share stories that both want and need the attention.

Teach, Learn, Share

I feel like I don't have a lot to teach people. I am so young and I feel very new to the world. I have travelled, but every time I have gone anywhere, I felt like I needed to stay longer to truly know the city. I just feel like with every question that is answered, I have three more questions. I hope that I can meet more travellers through Couchsurfing so that I can absorb more and more human culture.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I will bring liveliness and energy to every host. I am very, very enthusiastic and adventurous. I will try almost anything (I think). I can speak a little but of french and very poor spanish. I can offer shallow insight into gender and race politics between Canada and the United States. I studied Political Science and Anthropology, but I am still learning. I am a very, almost sickeningly, progressive thinker. However, I am not very progressive technologically... I am still working on that. I hope that you will learn from me as much as I know I will learn from you.
