ABOUT ME

My name is Carolina Sosa, I’m 33 years old, and I live in Montevideo. I'm a National Geographic Explorer and I work in the audiovisual industry, mostly as a documentary producer. I was born in Uruguay, but I lived in Argentina (2012), Mexico (2014), and then I got a Fulbright Scholarship to study for a master's degree in Los Angeles (USA) from 2015 to 2017. I also lived in Australia for almost a year and I currently live in Uruguay, but I try to travel as much as I can. I am also the Director of Okurelo, an organization that adapts audiovisual content for blind and deaf people. I love animals, I'm a vegetarian and an environmental activist. If I could, I would only dance for a living :)

SOBRE MI

Mi nombre es Carolina Sosa, tengo 33 años y vivo en Montevideo. Soy Exploradora de National Geographic y trabajo en la industria audiovisual, principalmente como productora de documentales. Nací en Uruguay, pero viví en Argentina (2012), México (2014), y luego obtuve una beca Fulbright para estudiar una maestría en Los Ángeles (EE. UU.) de 2015 a 2017. También viví en Australia por casi un año, y actualmente vivo en Uruguay, aunque trato de viajar lo más que puedo. También soy Directora de Okurelo, una organización que adapta contenido audiovisual para personas ciegas y sordas. Me encantan los animales, soy vegetariana y activista ambiental. Si pudiera, solo me ganaría la vida bailando :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

The first time I used the site was in 2012 when I stayed at a couchsurfer's house in Iquique, Chile. Then I accepted several people in my house or even went out to eat with some who were visiting my country, until finally in 2014-15 I brought this beautiful site to fruition. I stayed at the home of couchsurfers in Mexico, during my trip of almost five months, where I never paid lodging (Cancún, Isla Mujeres, Tulum, San Cristóbal de las Casas, Palenque, Sayulita, Puerto Escondido). The truth is that on that trip through Mexico I realized the power of Couchsurfing, it made me meet incredible local people, who showed me the real city I was in, gave me the best advice, and offered me unique opportunities. The last time I used the site was in 2019 in Canada. Finally, the pandemic came and, for obvious reasons, I stopped using it. Now, in 2022, I reopen the doors of my home and I look for people in other countries who want to share an experience with me. I still believe that Couchsurfing is a spectacular platform that, if you use it well, you can get the best experiences of your life :)

EXPERIENCIA COUCHSURFING

La primera vez que utilicé el sitio fue en 2012 cuando me quedé en la casa de un couchsurfer en Iquique, Chile. Luego acepté a varias personas en mi casa o incluso salí a comer con algunos que estaban de visita en mi país, hasta que finalmente en 2014-15 le di fruto a este hermoso sitio. Me quedé en casa de couchsurfers en México, durante mi viaje de casi cinco meses, donde nunca pagué hospedaje (Cancún, Isla mujeres, Tulum, San Cristobal de las casas, Palenque, Sayulita, Puerto escondido). La verdad es que en ese viaje por México me di cuenta del poder de Couchsurfing, me hizo conocer gente local increíble, quienes me mostraron la verdadera ciudad en la que estaba, me dieron los mejores consejos y me ofrecieron oportunidades únicas. La última vez que utlicé el sitio fue en 2019 en Canadá. Finalmente, vino la pandemia y por razones obvias dejé de usarlo. Ahora, en 2022 vuelvo a abrir las puertas de mi hogar y a buscar gente en otros países que quieran compartir una experiencia conmigo. Sigo creyendo que Couchsurfing es una plataforma espectacular que, si la usas bien, puedes conseguir las mejores experiencias de tu vida :)
