Overview
About Me
Carly & Julius are now travelling together! Starting in Amsterdam and (hitch) hiking, couch surfing, deck-handing, working and playing our way all the way to New Zealand (🤞)! Can you be a part of this adventure? We love to meet people locally and hear about the culture and see a place through your eyes.
Carlijn finished a masters in environment & resource management after studying psychology and neuroscience, then went on to work for Greenpeace as a community mobiliser before starting with this trip.
Julius studied bio-inspired innovation and worked in biodiversity and climate-related spatial planning.
We both care for the world and are interested in nature, degrowth and post capitalism, community building, mental and physical health, and learning about commoning practices.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I couchsurf because I like to meet interesting locals who can tell me their stories and show me their home town/country from their perspective. The reason I travel and couchsurf is to find connections to cultures that are different from mine, and to meet people who can tell me all about those cultures, habits, their history and the places they know most about.
I see couch surfing as a completely different experience from a hostel or b&b, namely meeting likeminded people and sharing time with people who can bring you new life lessons.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Carlijn: Recovered from a long time illness and learned to start accepting myself 🥹
Or I used to say: Had all kinds of side jobs as a kid to save up a ton of money in order to go round the world at 18. During that trip I did a couple fun or amazing things, including skydiving in Hawaii, scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef, watching the sunset at the top of the 'highest mountain of the world', cliff diving of as high as the 6th floor into a shark-filled bay, ziplined into a mud cave, and took a 2 month long road trip with a stranger.
