About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Previous mission was to avoid life as long as possible. I am now a boring adult. I still try to get outdoors and travel as much as possible.
ABOUT ME
Racially ambiguous guy (got some fun stories there) who grew up Japanese inside the home, but outside ate way too many tacos and too much pho. Grew up with a heavy Mexican and SE Asian influence due to my surroundings. I am a huge coffee snob. I really, really enjoy a good cup. Urban backpacking throughout Europe and SE Asia has been great for me. I also love the outdoors. I climb a lot. I hike a lot. If we meet up perhaps we can do something cool together outdoors.
PHILOSOPHY
Travel with an open mind and travel light. Experience all. Talk to people. Or ignore them and look at the trees.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
If it matters, I have hosted frequently in the past, as well as been hosted, through various exchange programs and connections with friends, which gave me the mindset to give it a go with CouchSurfing.
As a guest, I personally require minimum attention.. While traveling, I have slept in parks, McDonald's (the only time I was thankful for this place's existence), cars, etc..
However, if my host has time, I prefer to see their home through their own eyes. Hotels are the same everywhere.. what is the point? Authentic experiences with genuine people who know how to enjoy themselves are really what I am after.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I hosted a few people at my apartment in Tokyo, and was able to exchange countless cool stories and have a really good time with everyone. Hosting now is more difficult, but I have done it, and as always, it has been great.
Currently it is difficult to accept guests because I share a home with others. I have done it so it may be worth asking, but something that may have a good success rate is joining me for a camping trip. I usually go outdoors somewhere with my girlfriend at least a few times a month, whether it be for a thru hike, car camping, or just day hiking/climbing. I spend half my free time looking up the next trail I want to complete.. join me!
And I have surfed myself a few times.. I have to say all my hosts were amazing and showed me a good time, every time! I had such good experiences that I would surely not have had otherwise.. People always make the place. Luckily everyone has been fantastic.
Interests
You. Tell me about yourself.
Food. Dancing, singing, usually poorly, as well as the other things that come along with such action.
But yes, I love food, I love cooking, and if you are the same, getting along should be no problem. I will cook you dinner, maybe.
I enjoy walking. Whether through the country or the city, if it is walkable, I will be walking.
I enjoy lounging in used bookstores, reading randomly for hours, and then leaving, often without a purchase.
I enjoy finding small, dirty cafés.
I do enjoy traveling myself. But when I can't, I actually do enjoy long walks on the beach. Really. But sometimes I run.
Books. Preferably good ones.
Mountains. The sky. Just look up.

Music, Movies, and Books
Too many things to list here, really. I don't like Marvel though.
I have quite wide-ranging tastes... I watch the odd movie, listen to anything from hip-hop to classical, and read books frequently.
I like to think that my selections are intelligent but sometimes they really, really aren't.
Lately I have been into Russian literature.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Peed in a bottle on a sleeping bus in Laos once.
Laid out newspaper and slept in a children's playhouse in a park in Firenze with my girlfriend one night. She wasn't so happy.. Hmm...
Went snorkeling for three days around Komodo in Indonesia. Manta rays everywhere, turtles, sharks, fish, fish, more fish, and beautiful coral reefs.
Rode a bicycle with no gears from the center of Ubud up a mountain Gunung Kawi... made a friend there randomly, saw some awesome sights.. and then met a man who bicycled from Eindhoven to Bangkok, and then all around South Sulawesi later that night. After I though I had a tough day... incredibly inspiring.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am glad to share my (limited) knowledge of languages with you. I am fluent in both English and Japanese. I also would love for others to help me with my Spanish and French. I am terrible at both.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Travel stories. I love to cook and can make food. A hiking buddy. A climbing buddy.
