About Me

"You’ll learn, as you get older, that rules are made to be broken. Be bold enough to live life on your terms, and never, ever apologize for it. Go against the grain, refuse to conform, take the road less traveled instead of the well-beaten path. Laugh in the face of adversity, and leap before you look. Dance as though EVERYBODY is watching. March to the beat of your own drummer. And stubbornly refuse to fit in." - M. Hale

Adventurous and open minded professional who lives for cultural immersion and meeting like minded individuals.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To connect and share experiences with people from different cultures all over the world. I've also found staying in hostels, though it can be fun, gives you an artificial cultural experience. I want to immerse myself in the city and country that I am in! I like being chucked into the deep end. Sink or swim right? I really want an authentic experience and I feel like only people who know the city and culture well enough can provide that.

Interests

I love learning about different cultures, especially through their food and languages. I studied both Italian and Japanese for six years (not fluent at all mind you haha...), and am trying to learn Spanish and German.

I am an aviation enthusiast, and keen on anything plane, space and travel related. I'm also a fully qualified commercial pilot and I'm hoping to work for an international airline very soon. Talk about living out your dreams, hey?

I throughly enjoy talking about a range of topics such as life, love, sport, international politics and why cats give me hayfever, among other things.

I also enjoy keeping fit and active (qualified personal trainer back home) enjoying the gym, various sports (swum competitively in high school and play recreational water polo) and hiking.

Music, Movies, and Books

Anything written by Matthew Reilly. Especially his Scarecrow series.

I love books and movies that have a thrilling and fast paced plot. Usually dystopian, end of the world/status quo plots are my favourites.

Love zombie movies and tv shows (Walking Dead, Resident Evil, World War Z(the book is fantastic) ), fantasy and Sci Fi (Star Wars, Star Trek, Thunderbirds, Power Rangers, Game of Thrones, Vikings) and shows that hit closer to reality (Narcos, Breaking Bad, Orange is the New Black) as well as my comedies (Rick and Morty, Community, Modern Family, Brooklyn Nine Nine, South Park). Walter Mitty is also one of my favourites!

In terms of music, I like anything that sounds good! But I love my punk/alternative rock bands and alternative artists (James Blake, FKA Twigs, Golden Features, Sigur Ros, Yellowcard, Muse, The Killers) and trance/EDM (Purity Ring, Porter Robinson, Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Vini Vici, Marlo, Cosmic Gate). I'm also a big fan of the 80s and classics (The Smiths, Tears for Fears, Journey, Toto, Elton John, Aerosmith). There is so much more to my music, as I love so much. You'll just have to find out! :)

Also, Disney and musical theatre. I'll leave that one at that haha!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Cliff jump into a sink hole in Mexico.
Hike all the major parks in the USA.
Jumped out of a plane over the Grand Canyon.
Fly myself across three different states in Australia.
And funnily enough, always manage to get home after a night out even if I didn't remember how haha.
There is so much more on this list I need to add. You'll just have to ask!

Teach, Learn, Share

Happy to share the entertaining life experiences I've gone through as well as demystifying Australia for the uninitiated!

My fingers are also double jointed, so I can show you that if you'd like.

I've also been a swimming coach for 6 years, so I can teach you the basics. Swimming is one of life's most important skills which everyone should know!

I'm also planning on getting my flight instructor license, so I could also teach you the basics of flying! I'd definitely be able to share the mechanics of flight with you on the ground. Or in the air... If you dare ;)

What I Can Share with Hosts

A multitude of hilarious stories, jokes, and impersonations! All in all, a bloody good time :)
