Über mich

Currently studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minho in Portugal.
I have double nationality, Luxembourgish and Portuguese. Used to live in Luxembourg City before moving to study abroad.
Also shortly lived in Germany were I was studying as well. After that I took a break from my studies and that's when I started traveling the world.

Crazy how many people I've got to know thses years, all because of Couchsurfing!
Meeting nice people is always great! I could just book hostel rooms, but I prefer meeting people while travelling and that's why I'm on Couchsrufing. +.. let's be honest.. it feels kind of sad going somewhere and always beeing alone. The best travel experiences I can remember were with people I met while travelling!
Alright.. more about me.. hmmm.. people usually say that I'm very friendly and calm. Strangers kind of always tend to be nice to me as well.

Due to past experiences with Couchsurfing I should mention that I'm straight, but that doesn't mean that I have something against gay people! In fact, they are usually very nice people and I've already stayed with hosts that were gay. I still keep in touch with them and consider them good friends!
I mentioning this because I've already had terrible experiences with hosts offering me to stay because they probably thought I was gay as well, and then sadly took things to the exteme, some of them even declined my stay after!

Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

When I first started travelling, I used to stay at Hostels alone and one day while visiting Copenhagen in Denmark, I met these two nice students with which I had a nice conversation and one of them asked me about couchsurfing. I didn't know what that was and he kind of explained it to me (basically meeting new people while travelling and staying with them). Since then, I'm less alone while travelling and I even manage to save some money on expensive hotels, which helps me travel even more. Anyways.. that guy told me "I know you'll forget about the app so just picture a guy surfing on a couch and you won't forger!" well, .. he was right!
I looked up some reviews about couchsurfing before deciding to give it a try and afterwards joined the couchsurfing community. First time I used it was in Vienna,Austria and that's were I got my first host. The experience was great and kind of more than what I expected. Since then I've been using couchsurfing when travelling.

Interessen

Started working out when I moved to Portugal and liked it. It helps me escape daily life for a while and keeps me in shape!
Music wise, I'm kind of more into Techno and House Music lateley. I go to a lot of events in my free time and I kind of feel that I've never met so many amazing people than at Techno events. Glad I gave it a try.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

1) Climbed to the top of mount Fuji all alone with no climbing gear, wearing normal daily clothes in only 4 hours! People told me it would take 12 hours to the top but I only had one day and only 6 hours to catch the last bus back to the city of Tokyo. I was convinced that I would make it to the top and I did it!Always running like a mad man! Risked my life at the top! It was very cold and snowing. The wind was blowing very stong and while going back down from the top, there was a very slippery hill without anything to hold on and no person around, the rocks under my feet slipped aways and I was rolling down the hill and managed to stop 1 meter before a cliff. You couldn't even see the bottom.. just clodes! If I had fallen down there, I would have died for sure. My hands were full of blood but it didn't hurt much because of how scared I was at that moment. I got up and had to run back down to catch the bus. It got night and I had to use my smartphone as a flashlight which didn't help much.. what a crazy day that was!

2)Visited an abandoned theme park alone on a stormy afternoon in Nara, Japan just one month before it was demolished for ever.

Lehren, lernen, teilen

1) If you have the possibilities to discover other places.. do it! Might seem scary at first but once you start seeing new places, you'll end up always wanting more.
2) Be nice. Nice people always win. Only good vibes!
3) Don't do something you don't like and don't hesitate on doing things you like!

Was ich mit Gastgebern teilen kann

My culture.. both of them! I spent every year some time in Portugal and had to do portuguese related things over here in Luxembourg because of my parents, so I know a lot about both of these cultures. I've also lived in Portugal for a few years now.
Sharing my friendship and my experience in languages. You can practice one of the languages I know with me and I'll help you out.

Travel Advices:

1) Travelling to Portugal?

The best way to discover Portugal is by car! Rent a car if you have the possibility. It's cheap to rent a car over here and you can go to places you would have not been able to visit without it! Plus, it's the quickest way to get around here and it saves you a lot of time which enables you to visit even more places. Public transportation is honestly a mess outside the two major cities (Lisbon and Porto).
Start in the north, and drive your way down to the south! The northern part of Portugal is the most richest in history and tradition. It has the Portugal's biggest cities which are all very close to each other (basically every major nothern city here is a 30min drive apart from each other). People in the north are in general poorer, happier and friendlier, which makes staying and travelling in the north, much cheaper and nicer than southern parts. The souther you go, the more expensive things get.
I recommend flying into Porto, visiting: Porto, Braga and Guimarães. After that you can take the road to the south and fly back home from Faro or Lisbon.

2) Travelling Luxembourg?

Well Luxembourg is small, so you might consider a short weekend Trip or try and also visit some german cities next to it. Paris, Amserdam or Brussels are also just few hours away from Luxembourg, but don't worry there is still plenty to see over here in Luxembourg!
Stay in Luxembourg City. You won't need more than 2 days to explore the city. Take some tours to the northern part of the country were we have some of the nicest castles that still exist. Travelling to the south is honestly not worth it at all. Do not rent a car! You won't need it and public transportation here is very good, it gets you everywhere you want and it's very cheap! (Public Transportation is free on weekends and will be completely free starting 2020)
