About Me

ABOUT ME
Hi there! I'm Carmela, a Brazilian gal who loves meeting pets and their humans.

Going on adventures is, to me, one of the best feelings in the world, and my trips around Brazil with my parents are my fondest childhood memories.

Playing the violin, singing, reading and gaming are some of my favorite pastimes. (:

I go to bed early and wake up early, which, paired with my musical taste and love for sugar-less coffee, led to some of my friends calling me "a grumpy old lady".

Studying psychology since 2016 and freelancing as a translator and interpreter for all kinds of international folk since 2013.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

WHY I'M CURRENTLY NOT HOSTING
I live with my parents in a crammed, mostly hectic pink house with an elderly turtle (seriously!) and a middle-aged dog.

Due to an unholy amount of dog hair and books, us temporarily converting the guest room into a store room (it makes me sad too) and my dog being unpredictable with guests, I sadly can't take anyone in at the moment.

WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR
Since this isn't Tinder, I'm NOT looking for a romantic tour around the Eiffel Tower.

What I'm looking for is a mutual learning experience.

I'd also appreciate a cozy place to sleep in, maybe some advice getting around and, if our schedules align, definitely hanging out together!

Nothing beats getting to know someone over a few co-op matches or some bad karaoke, so count on me for that.

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC
My favorite genre is classical, mainly the Russians. But I'm a fan of everything from MPB to electro swing.

MOVIES
From South Korean revenge movies to Bergman...

My current favorites are: Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, Lawrence of Arabia, The Grand Hotel Budapest, Chungking Express, The Fall and Feliz Ano Velho.

BOOKS
Edgar Alan Poe understand my sad days, Sherlock Holmes permeated my childhood and Terry Pratchett is what my laugh sounds like.

Clarice Lispector, Manuel de Barros and Augusto dos Anjos are some of my Brazilian favorites.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- Representing an international executive aviation magazine in Brazil for five years and counting;
- Going back to playing the violin after years without money to pay for a teacher;
- Backpacking alone through Europe for 37 days.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a people's person and showing travelers around my hometown is always pleasure.

In the past I've helped guide tourists from South Africa, France and North America around São Paulo.

Currently invested in learning as much as I can about astronomy, psychology and local cultures.

Literature, art and music are things I sniff out of every new place I visit, and no good play shall go unwatched as long as it fits my pocket and my schedule!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm very very good at organizing things. I can air my books and reorganize them around the house for days on end.

So maybe I can share some tips on organizing your space and sorting your books!

I love discussing languages so ask away about Portuguese, Brazil, or my work experiences as a translator.

I'm also an eager learner and a good listener so, even though it's not much, my ears are a fine pair.
