ABOUT ME

Adventurous young kid trapped in a middle aged man's body! Lives to travel and meet new people on any continent... has lived most of overseas life in China, Taiwan and Japan. Chinese speaker since 1979 and work to improve that skill every chance I can. A volunteer at a local hospital as a golf cart driver and Piedmont First Aid Dawgs at almost all UGA home games...working to improve lives of others is high on the list of things to enjoy in life. Most recent life goal: snowboard on two different islands: New Zealand -Mt Hutt 2013: check! Japan - in 2014 Hakuba-Cortina: check! Whistler-Blackcomb Feb 2019 - check!...off to Australia/New Zealand May 2023

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I signed on in 2011 while traveling through the Pacific... did not utilize then bec I have many great friends in that part of the world.. Still do but want to meet new people and hear cool stories from new friends..

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

First CS experience was just like staying with any of my global friends...one night in Sydney and an early wake up to catch a train to Richmond... host was awesome... took me to the beaches he learned to swim/snorkel/dive in then to a fantastic Chinese restaurant he'd been going to since he was a wee lad. looking forward to meeting new folks along the journey of life.

Interests

As a retired self-employed gutter and roof cleaner I am able to travel extensively .. I am also a Trip Leader for the Georgia Outdoor Rec dept and lead facilitator with the UGA Challenge Course (Hi and Low Ropes). I lead trips underground in Petty John's, Tumbling Rock, Howard's Waterfall Cave, etc.. I've snowboarded since 1996 and warm up on Black runs for fun..I carry a Frisbee everywhere just in case! Scuba dived/snorkeled the GBReef in Oct 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2019... re-explored three Chinas and Japan in Oct 2016 with first AF Roomie..visited good friends in Hungary, Netherlands in 2016 and 2017, then back to Japan in 2018 and 2019.

Sci fi and adventure ....classics like Young Frank & High Anxiety, and MP Holy Grail, Farewell to the King w Nick Nolte, Dead Poet's Society, I love DWho. Listens to almost any type of music mostly classic rock...Dan Brown, the Potter Series, Marcinko's paperbacks, Richard Bach from the 70's. Lee Child- Jack Reacher series

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Climbed Mt Fuji x 10 ( 8 successfully, 5 with mtn bike), biked from Beijing to the Great Wall and rode/ camped approx 2 miles away from touristy part, bungee jumped from suspension bridges in Taiwan and New Zealand, (well that was more than one!)
